1500th Blog Post

Fireworks and champagne

I know.  Can you believe it?  I have been blogging since 2007, and have reached the milestone of my 1500th post.  Crazy.   I started blogging with the idea of creating a record of my quilting projects, my decorating schemes and entertaining.  I started commenting on other blogs, and in return started getting comments on my posts.  Over time, I have made some absolutely priceless friendships and have so enjoyed the experience of getting to know so many like minded people.

Without a doubt, the best part of blogging is receiving comments!  I have a dozen or so regulars who seem to comment on every post I write, but I'd love to hear from some more of you.  Especially if you haven't taken the time to comment before, do consider it.  I'd be honored.

To thank you for being faithful readers, and to show my appreciation for your kind comments over time, I would like to do a little blog giveaway.

002

I am giving away three prizes, Lori Holt's Quilty Fun book, and Joanna Figuera's recent book, With Fabric and Thread.  I also have a vintage layer cake of Fresh Cottons by Fig Tree.

Fresh cotton       Fresh cotton 2

If you would like to enter the drawing for one of these three prizes, leave me a comment telling me why you like to read my blog!

I will announce the winners on Monday.  Thanks again for all your attention over the years I have been blogging, and if you are a new reader, know how much I appreciate your interest.

  7. Nicole, I have followed your blog for at least 4 years and enjoy it so much. I think I have commented a few times, but I mostly just read. I love reading your blog because your photos are always so wonderful…whether they are of your projects or your home decorations. Though my style is far different from yours, I love to look at what you’re doing. I think your piecing is fabulous, as are your color choices. Thanks for the opportunity!

  22. I do look for your welcome posts and miss you when real life takes over, either for you or me. I am always impressed with your work even though I know you have so much going on and it inspires me to keep my focus when I have time to sew. Like others, I was attracted by your fabric and pattern choices. And seeing the benefits of blogging, such as meeting new friends, travel and learning, is inspiring too. Congratulations on the milestone but a big thank you for sharing with our quilting community and keeping it real when you need to. You give more than you know.

  28. Why do I like to read your blog? Well, your quilts are gorgeous, you are generous with sharing techniques, the blog is visually appealing, and you are real — you share some hard times as well as the peaches and cream. I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it: I wish you lived down the street! Congratulations, friend, on your achievement.

  37. Good Morning Nicole!:) Five years ago I began reading your blog as a suggestion from a deat friend who had just begun her own blog. I knew NOTHING aobut the blogging world. Didn’t even know what a blog was! 🙂 Well, it has been so fun to get to “know” other ladies from around the globe and you are one of them. I come by usually every morning to see what quilty goodness you are up to. I enjoy your sense of humor and your quilts and other sewing projects. Love seeing all the photos of your successes and even your “oops” moments; 🙂 You keep it real and include many helpful tips and links. So many of your projects have inspired me to make some of the same…the zippy strippy bags, the around town table topper (which I made using the same fabrics you did :)), just to name a couple. I have also enjoyed “hearing” about your precious little grandaughter and seeing her cute pictures!!
When I have asked a question in an email you have answered and been encouraging as well. AND>>> you post almost everyday which I love!!! 🙂 Thanks so much for being an inspiration and bloggy friend that I have never met. 🙂 Congratulations on your 1500th post, thats A LOT OF WORK!!

  55. Hi Nicole! You won’t remember because it was 5 years ago…but I had just started quilting and my SIL told me to look for quilting blogs. Blogs??? I had never read a blog in my life and had yet to do so, but I sat at the computer one night when I was alone in a quiet house and the first Blog ‘title’ that really caught my eye was “Sister’s Choice”! I spent over 2 1/12 hour reading, drooling over the quilts, laughing at the dogs and loving every minute I was wandering through your wonderland. It was all new to me. So I left a comment, much longer than this will be, I actually got an error message once telling me my comment was too long!!! So you got three in a row from me that night, I peppered you with questions which you so kindly answered that very night, and you also guided me to a few other great blogs. So…though I rarely comment much on any blogs now, as my health prevents me from sitting too long at a time so I choose to use that time sewing when I can. But my love of blog land is all due to your kindness to me that night when a new quilter, late at night, wanted to talk quilting and you didn’t hesitate to respond. I have never forgotten that, and the beautiful “Tessellation” quilt that was shown in your header at the time. So that, in rather long nutshell, is why I love your blog, to this day, it is the first one I look for a new post on each time I sit down at my computer. Thank you for that night and for 1500 wonderful posts, that have not only shared your love of quilting, but you have also shared some of your ups and downs with us and treated us like your extended family. Big, Big Hugs…

  76. I don’t remember how I got started reading your blog, but I look for updates every day. I can’t believe how much I missed reading it when you took the summer off (although I understand why you did). I enjoy reading your blog because your quilts are similar to what I would make. I also like that you pay attention to details!! When you take close ups of your quilts, seams match, points aren’t cut off, etc. You care about the quality of your workmanship! And, I enjoy reading about the other things you write about – you are a person I can relate to.

Thanks for the chance to win one of the gifts in your give-away, too!
    Big hugs!

  94. Great post!!!
I have had a blog for over a year and find it a challenge getting followers never mind comments. 🙂 The good thing is I can see my blog is read by many!
Thanks for this “good read” this morning 🙂
My goal this year is to build my blog following.
Yes, I read your blog but never comment – lesson learned!
    Thanks

  97. I like to read your blog to see what you are doing. I like to read about your granddaughter and your dog, even though there was two dogs at one time. I like to hear about grandpa. I like to read about your decorating. Your blog is just interesting. I hope you have many more years of blogging.

  100. I look to see if you’ve posted every day! The few months you were gone it seemed as though I had lost touch with a friend. I was soooo happy when you resumed. I enjoy your post because of your taste in fabrics and patterns which is similar to mine but also for the snippets of your life that you share, like your FIL and granddaughter stories. Please keep up the good work and congrats!

  109. I enjoy reading your blog because you show a lot of your projects — even when you made an error, or didn’t like the way something came out — and then you show how you fixed it, or made it more to your liking.
Plus, reading your blog is like having tea with a girlfriend. . . easy going and calm (even in the midst of turmoil).

  112. I started reading your blog because you were on Thelma’s blog roll. And then you blogged about Home Goods and MADE me spend $200 one day. And much more since then. I commented about it and said you owed me that $200 but I have yet to see the check!!! I used to just scroll down through Thelma to reach you but you now have your own special place on my favorites list and you are the first blog I go to in the mornings. And right now I am busily wrapping all my fabric around the comic book boards. Thanks so much for that tip. Congratulations on your milestone. I hope you continue to blog (with no more huge breaks!) for years to come.

  115. Congratulations, Nicole! As you can see, you have impacted the lives of a few people! Your blog is the first one I read every day and I so appreciate you sharing your life with us. You are definitely a quilting and decorating inspiration. I do have one question – what’s been happening with Ozzie and Sophie? I saw Ozzie on a recent post but not Sophie?
Thanks again for sharing with us.

  118. Congratulations on so many years of blogging! I’ve enjoyed it very much since I discovered there was such a thing as quilting blogs in late 2007! I like that you’re a good writer–having a way with words is a great talent to have, among your other talents. :). I’m glad you’ve come back after necessary life-event breaks and hope quilting and blogging remain high on your “likes” list. Thanks for all the great information, beautiful fabrics and stunning quilts you’ve shared over the years!

  121. Cannot believe you have reached such a zenith in blogging and I have been looking forward to your posts for so long. You have been the inspiration for many quilt purchases (not a bad thing!), trying new, more complex designs, and in general, just moving my quilt interests ahead.I love fabric and am easily inspired by something new, something floral, something pretty. It’s all cheaper than therapy, and in the meantime I have been making history with quilts that I love and love to share. I even sold a quilt this year and was able to buy a beautiful old featherweight from my quilt teacher which was very special. My biggest quiltie problem is that I live 130-150 miles from any good sized quilt shop and so I rely on bloggers to spread the word about what’s new. I’m pretty tight with the FQS shop too. Keep it up if you can Nicole, your efforts are treasured.

But, I have to say that Ozzie’s antics & Miss E make it my favorite blog reading in the morning! Here’s to 1500 more posts!

  175. Hi Nicole
I don’t often comment but read you faithfully. I found you originally through a link from Nancy Near Philadelphia ( whom I found via Bonnie Hunter whose blog was the first I ever read)and loved the name and your then masthead picture; it was blue and white as I recall. Then I was hooked when you shared the trials and tribulations of your two dogs. I’m a dog lover so in addition to quilting we have that in common. And then the move, and your quilting studio, and then another move! Oh my, I’ve enjoyed your writing for a long time. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  190. Congratulations on 1500 blog posts! I didn’t know what a blog was back in 2007. Ha! Ha! I think I like to read your posts most because you seem like you could be my next door neighbor. We have similar tastes in fabric, I love the projects you pick out and you seem very down to earth. Life has its difficulties, but you have a great attitude about it. Love your Ozzie as well!

  199. There are so many reasons I love your blog and read it first thing each morning, but the best reason is probably that we share a love for the same fabric palette. I love everything you do, and enjoy seeing you take a pattern that I have ignored, and turn it into a work of art because of the fabric choice. I am also amazed that you create so quickly! I wish I knew all your cutting and piecing secrets. I always learn something from your posts….even how to make corned beef (and have only blown my oven up once). I look forward to your next 1500 posts with joyful anticipation!

  211. Nicole: Congratulations on 1,500 posts! Wow! I love your blog for many reasons. I am always inspired by your quilting and how much you can get done when I can’t seem to be able to. I love to see your wonderful decorating and attention to detail in so many areas. It’s been so fun to see baby Eva getting so big and keeping tabs on how gramps is doing. What can I say about Ozzie other than maybe a few more posts, please! In other words, it’s about daily life done beautifully!
Here’s to many more posts in the future!!!

  214. I like reading your blog because you “keep it real.” Your life is full and sometimes complicated. You can’t always spend a lot of money on the latest fabrics and you often don’t have time to quilt because you are busy taking care of babies and parents. I can relate to the experiences you have more than I can to some of the seemingly perfect (or, at least, well-staged) blogs of other quilters. I appreciate that you take the time to blog even amidst of all the craziness that is life! Plus, you have fabulous taste in fabrics and your granddaughter is adorable!

  217. Nicole, congratulations on your 1500 posts! That is awesome.
It has been a while since I commented and I was absent for a while due to health issues but have been back following your beautiful work again.
Sounds like your life has been very full since your big move a couple years ago. Yet your quilt projects survive and are inspiring. Hope with you more quilting is in our futures. :-).

  220. Congratulations, Nicole. 1,500 blog posts is quite something. I love reading your blog because we seem to have the same taste in patterns (The Long Road Home, Second Hand Clothes) and fabrics (CW), and you always seem to accomplish so much in the time you have, and that’s very inspiring. And you have the best sewing room!

  223. Congrats on 1500 posts, quite an accomplishment! I try to catch your blog daily, but don’t always respond and have been following for about four years. Missed you over the summer when you went “silent” for a few months. I believe I have similar tastes to you when it comes to quilting, which is probably why I like your blog so much, that and your humor. Keep up the posts, I need all the help I can get!

  253. I’m a fairly regular reader and so enjoy your blog , although I don’t comment. Quilting is my “all consuming” hobby (according to my husband), but I am a hand appliquer, never bought a kit in my life and compared to you I’m a slow worker. I absolutely get inspiration from all you accomplish and I really like the quilts you make. My tastes run to reproduction or historical looking quilts and you just nail it. On top of that your photos are great! You are genuine and enthusiastic and that all comes through in your blog. Thank you for being a creative soul willing to share. Cheers Karen

  283. Hi Nicole, I’ve been visiting for a few years now and have never been disappointed. Your piecing skills are my motivation to rip out that imperfect seam when it would be so much easier to just ignore it – I tell myself that Nicole would not let it go by. You have such a wonderful sense of colour combinations and always seem to manage to find the perfect pattern.
I also enjoy reading about your family and home. So keep it up for another 1500 posts and more.
    Yours in quilting,

    Yours in quilting,

  286. Congratulations on 1500 posts, that’s fantastic. My favorite part of your blog is seeing your finishes, I love tutorials and seeing your sewing area. If I commented on every blog I read I’d never do anything else. ;-> I seem to comment a little more if I see babies or dogs! I don’t know why. Joanna’s book is very good, I’ve made the flower pin cushion. Congrats again, keep up the good work. Thanks for letting us peek into your world of quilting. ;-> Toni Anne

  289. Hi Nicole, congratulations on 1500 blog posts!
I sew very little myself, and don’t really plan to start (and that might be blasphemy on a quilter’s blog, sorry!). But my mother sewed beautifully and taught us right along the way, so I just love to see the fabric magic happen, the color combinations, the creative patterns. I have a great appreciation for it even if I don’t do it myself. OR, maybe over time, I’ll be ready to pick it up again, maybe in my retirement!

  295. I stumbled upon your blog about a year ago and I’ve enjoyed reading it ever since. I’m not really a quilter (garment sewer, who occasionally dabbles in quilts), so I love looking at what others are capable of. I think one of the reasons that I keep up with your blog is that while our taste aren’t the same, you come off as keeping it real (not every idea works out/accidents happen/interest or attention span wonders and leaves treasures to be found in various states at much later dates). Imperfection is a wonderful thing and you do it in a very classy way. 🙂

  322. Congrats on your 1500th post!
Your posts are always so inspirational. I had lost touch with you during the past few months (returned to work after 12 “mommy years”). Just yesterday I searched you out and have added you to my “feed”. I’m hoping to start back up with quilting again. I haven’t done much in the past few years since we were living on one-income. Keep on posting…

  325. Congratulations on your 1500th blog post. What an accomplishment. I love seeing your quilts, they are inspiring and your color choices are fantastic. I am in awe of Long Road Home and Shiloh. I have both of those patterns and have moved them into the TO DO list for 2014. Thanks for all the inspiration. And thank you too, for the opportunity to win a prize.

  343. what’s a little scary is that i think i’ve read all 1500 of your blog posts! i wasn’t there in the beginning but went back and read the archives when i found your blog a few years ago. i was googling “Miss Rosie” (i had just bought a Carrie Nelson pattern book) and found your blog–and found out that was a whole “blogland” out there–many, many hours have been thus spent out in blogland!! thanks for the many more hours you’ve put in writing your blogs!

  346. Congratulations! 1500 posts is a lot -and since 2006? I am fairly new, been following you for about a year on Feedly. I think it is really interesting to see what others are working on. I also live in an area devoid of quilt shops so blogs give me exposure to things I might never see otherwise. Thank you for sharing yourself and your work.

  349. I enjoy reading your blog very much. I don’t often comment, one time I left a comment that the blogger did not like and it caused me quite a few problems so I decided to keep my comments to myself at that point. But, I wanted to take an opportunity to tell you I am a faithful reader of your blog and I enjoy and appreciate seeing your quilts, your home and hearing about your grandaughter and father in law. Congratulations on your 1500th post! That’s quite an accomplishment!

  355. Congratulations, Nicole, on your 1500th blog post. Wow. I read your blog every day. There are several things about you and your blog that I enjoy. First, is that you are genuine. If you mess up, you share it. When a project turns out great, you share that too. I especially enjoy “watching” your process and progress. In addition to quilting, you share what’s going on in your life, the ups and the downs, which helps connect us all, as we all have varied life journeys. Thank you for all your inspiration and for being “real.”

  373. Hi Nicole! I enjoy reading your blog primarily because I like the style of quilts you make and that you are so real. By that I mean you share some of what’s happening in your non-quilty life – like Grandpa and Eva. I just know that if I ever met you in person we’d be able to get along and talk like old friends. I’ve been reading your blog since 2009, but have only been commenting for about a year when I started my own blog. I have to tell you, a few months ago, I started at the beginning and have now read all the posts you’ve ever written. Please keep blogging, I’ll be here reading!

  385. Congrats on 1500 and wow!! I love reading your blog for so many reasons and miss you when you take much needed breaks. You are one of the first blogs I read simply because I like to see what you’re up to. You share all your triumphs, failures, great decorating tips, and keep it personal without sharing too many intimate details. Because of you I’ve discovered Thelma (plus Carrie and countless more), tablescapes (who knew), the Pioneer Women, wonderful shopping sites, and too many other things to list. Thanks for blogging and here’s to 1500 more!!

  421. I can quite honestly say your blog and only one other are on my favorites header on my browser.
I was first attracted to your color choices since they are similar to mine. I totally identify with your need to find time to quilt since you work and have other obligations. And I have also experienced taking care of an older loved one.
You are down to earth and willing to admit making mistakes. (So I don’t feel so dumb when I make my own mistakes.) Your color choices are amazing which is so important to this art.
Thanks so much for graciously sharing and teaching!
And I totally felt all your joy and love when your granddaughter was born!!

  424. Congratulations on a big milestone! 1500 posts is no small thing! I have always been a reader, and something I especially love reading are diaries, journals, daily entries. They read like a mystery to me. I cant wait for the next entry to see what is happening. I have been reading your blg for about 3 or 4 years now and love to see what you are working on, what you are decorating, how your sewing room organizatuon progresses; most especially your grand daughters antics and how “grandpa” is doing.
    Keep up the good work!

  457. I have been following your blog for a few years now. When I first started, I could not believe how many beautiful quilts you were able to finish. You inspired me so much. I began to sew more feeling it was possible to create quilts similar to yours and finish them. I became better, more accurate, used some of your tips and instruction. I now consider myself a quilter, having completed many quilts. Your blog was an important part of my quilting journey. Thank you for your inspiration. You have enriched my life. Janet. Ii have shared with so many of my friends the entry about Ozzie and the orange sandals…so funny!

  466. 1500..can you imagine if each post were for each quilt made? When I first started reading your blog was way back .. I think two houses ago? Ozzie antics always delightful but crazy too…can’t recall other dogs name but if memory serves me correctly some scuffles. I keep coming back because I love your style of decor, fabric choices and reading you tell it how it is. Bad and good days and times…you keep it real. Besides, how will I know how grandpa is doing unless I check in here? Congrats…kep stitching!

  496. When I first started reading quilt blogs, I picked different parts of the United States than the Midwest perspective- where I live.
I had visited Monterey CA before on a trip to SF so knew your general location.
I continue to read your blog because I like reading blogs of frequent posters and you definitely get some interesting feedback from people.
So what I enjoy most is your humor re: life with Grandkids, seniors, Ozzie and quilt tutorials. Maybe it’s just real life but that’s what it is. Who needs fiction!!!Congratulations! Love your “finishes” by year. Take care!

  498. When I first started reading quilt blogs, I picked different parts of the United States than the Midwest perspective- where I live.
I had visited Monterey CA before on a trip to SF so knew your general location.

We read your blog because of
    the amazing quilts,
    your adorable granddaughter,
    your decorating expertise,
    silly/naughty dogs,
    book recommendations,
    recipe ideas.
But we stay because you are REAL. You help us ponder
    issues with aging parents,
    job loss,
    packing/moving,
    diets/weight,
    sons moving across the world!,
    spilling things on precious quilts,
juggling all those balls busy women keep in the air.
Thank you, thank you for giving us a window into your world which turns out to be a mirror reflection of our own lives. Here’s to the next 1500 posts on this journey called Life!

  502. Well, I read you everyday if I’m home. I am inspired by your pictures, hints on how to do things and how not to do things, products you’ve discovered, and the sprinkle of everyday life.

  520. One day, maybe two years ago or so, I suddenly realized that there might be people blogging about quilts, a topic that I’m interested in. So I started looking around for them, and, to be honest, Sister’s Choice was the first one that I looked at. I was so impressed and inspired by your beautiful quilts and you sound so down to earth when writing about them. Now I look at lots of quilt blogs, but honestly, yours is the standard by which all are judged; I always check you out first. I rarely comment online, but this time I really had something to say, and that is, “thanks for your blog” and “blog on!”

  523. Love your blog. First I must say I learned about blogging several years after you began yours but I am trying to make up for lost time. So much to learn from those who have gone before me and paved the way. Thank you.

  532. I like your blog because you seem like a real person, who is busy with ups and downs in life as we all are. I also think you write really well, and of course I love the quilts you make. I envy your stash too! One of the best things is that you respond to comments on your blog. It’s really disappointing when people don’t take the time ever to do that. I stopped commenting on their blogs. And 1500, wow! Congratulations.
