2022 Off to a Great Start

The New Year has gotten off to a great start for me. My goal is to tackle my large number of UFOs and either finish them or let them go. It's probably not surprising that I was drawn right back into the Lori Holt Red Sampler quilt. I had completed only six weeks of the project. The "Sew-Along" ship has sailed, but lucky for me, Lori has kept her sew-along posts on her Bee In My Bonnet blog, so I can refer back to the weekly instructions. Here is a link to all sixteen weeks of this sew-along.

Yesterday I had a lovely day in my sewing room and completed six blocks for Red Sampler Weeks Seven and Eight.

I've also been working on sewing the rows for Serendipity together and trying to catch up with Among the Stars Again block of the month. I'm feeling very good about my organized approach and look forward to showing you some completed tops soon. Or, at least in the next months…

Also, I have gone through my "flimsies" (completed but unquilted tops) and made a pile of some that I want to donate. My charitable organization of choice was Firehouse Quilts in Boulder, CO, which is quilting tops and giving them to victims of the terrible fires that took place in Colorado recently. I have five tops that I plan to mail to them today.

Why do I suddenly have so much time on my hands? Um, well, certain members of my family have come down with a well-publicized contagious virus and are isolating this week.

Hope you are all staying well and getting things done!

  1. Nicole-sorry to hear the virus has a hold on someone you love. I do hope it’s not you, or hubby, or litle Eva, and mostly I hope it’s not your dad. That leaves the little pooch….sure hope he’s immune. So, I hope whomever has it is soon well, and I’m secretly hoping you enjoy your ‘time off’ as much as possible. So keep calm, and sew on! I love your blogs!

  4. Good idea to donate to the Boulder group! I just skimmed a few of the links to Firehouse Quilts & it’s a very active, thriving group despite the pandemic! Speaking of ‘that’ I’m sending get well wishes to your family who are isolating. It’s serious no matter how ‘light’ a case. I’ll keep them in my prayers.

  7. Sorry to hear that some of your family are isolating. I hope they are okay. On the other hand, how delightful to have a big chunk of sewing time, especially when you are motivated and have a goal. Go, Nicole, go!

  10. Sorry everyone is dealing with the well publicized contagious virus. Bless your giving heart for sending your quilts to the fire victims. So much is taken from them, not just their house. My best for a continued high energy quilting spell! Stay well.

  16. Oops, sorry for your sick family members. I read that approximately one out of seven people in the US have had it so am surprised that I know so few people who’ve come down with it (so far, at least). I figure Jan. and Feb. are good months to stay in and quilt & read. Hopefully, things will improve and we can get our more in the spring.
