Oh dear. I seem to be suffering from another quilting-related injury. This has happened to me before, and I've been suffering with it for over a week. I am having trouble with that fat pad right under my right thumb. I think it is a soft tissue injury due to all the rotary cutting trimming I've been doing on those Halloween Memories blocks. The half square triangles need to be trimmed up, the square in a square blocks need trimming up, the flying geese need trimming up, the blocks need trimming up…It has taken a toll on my hand. I've had a rest most of the week, but I have to say, it still hurts. Luckily I can still hold my wine glass.
I am trying a new tea. Orange & Spice by Bigelow. It has a nice fall-like vibe and claims to be herbal. I had a couple of cups of it yesterday and it was very nice.
Archie had a bath and a haircut yesterday. The groomer said he was such a good boy. He loves looking good, and when we tell him how handsome he is, he is very proud. He is still recovering from his "vacation", where he was hyper-vigilant about "protecting us" and checking out all the new smells and sights. Actually, when he is checking out a new place, his nose is to the ground 99% of the time. He barely looks up to take in his surroundings. It is all about the smells for him. He must be part bloodhound.
My Star of Wonder quilt is back from the quilter. She sure got it done fast! This will be so great over the back of a chair, on my dining table, or over my balcony railing during the holidays. It is a free pattern on Fat Quarter Shop. The pattern is in four parts on their website. There are also YouTube tutorials.
I also got the quilt for my brother-in-law Greg back from the quilter. She did a simple wave design and I think it suits this rather geometric-looking quilt great. I can't wait to get the binding on it and present it to him. I know he will really appreciate it.
I hope you all have a great weekend. We are taking five or more days to recover from our three day get-away it seems. I hope to get up into the sewing room!

Oh my! Yes, the ability to hold your wine glass – very important! 🫶🏻 Archie is very handsome, such a good boy. I hope your hand feels better quickly, have you tried Tiger balm?

Hmm. That brace looks familiar. I needed one this spring when I was pulling weeds in the garden, which seems to really irritate my wrist. I sure hope you heal soon so you can get back to everything that needs to get done.

I also am friends with that brace. Our occupational hazard! But last night it worked fine with my wine. I still really like that Star of Wonder and may have to do it next year.

I know a cricut will not help with trimming blocks, but might it aid in reducing the rest of your rotary work?
I still think you should find a binder-helper now, to reduce stress on your hands and eyes.

Oh! Those Foxies! Ours was being boarded once and we got a text saying he barks as other dogs pass his room. They said that WFT’s think they need a “job” and love to “work”! I hope your hand heals quickly! And yes, Archie is a very handsome little man! Somehow, I think all Wired Fox Terriers are very handsome and very smart.

For your hand, make sure your blade is sharp. It happens so gradually to dull, and we don’t realize we are working harder. But…. holding your glass isn’t all bad!

Ouch! I can feel your wrist pain just looking at that brace! It’s an occupational hazard for anyone using a rotary cutter often. Thankfully, you are able to pick up that glass! Archie is such a little cutie-pie!🐾

Awwww!! Your poor hand. Thank goodness the glass gripping muscles are not affected! I, too, always return from a vacation tired and sometimes sick. Love the Star of Wonder– love all that you do.

you need the topical anti-inflammatory to help that spot heal. I’d send you mine but I need it. ;p try to stay cool and relax. I’m in hell here so someone should be having a relaxing time for me.

Archie is such a handsome boy! I do hope that rest will help your aching thumb/wrist injury heal up quickly.
Your quilts are lovely and back so soon — yay!

I suffered the first four months of the year with a very similar thing to what you have. I had it in both of my hands and I could not hold my glass. I had to eat with my left hand and I’m right handed and it was extremely uncomfortable. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with basal joint arthritis. I ended up having shots at the base of both of my thumbs. It helped incredibly almost like a miracle. I couldn’t believe it and so far I am going on my seventh month. They say that it should last six months, so I’m thinking I’m really lucky to have it go as long as I have. I did change my rotary cutter to one that doesn’t put so much pressure on my hand and spreads it out a little more. I can’t remember the name of it it’s red and has a handle on the side and may start with the letter M. Sorry, I can’t remember right now. Hopefully you’ll feel better soon. There is an over-the-counter product that is helpful for the pain. It is called VOLTAREN. You might give it a try

I have something similar but my left hand. My hand and arm got very painful from pressing down too hard on the ruler from cutting. I worked at a quilt shop for several years and I really did a number on my thumb. I just rest it a lot now. I went to the Dr. and he told me to quit cutting out fabric….he definitely doesn’t know quilters or has seen the stash I have! Hope you feel better soon!
