Very Productive Weekend

Summer in the Country finished
I was determined to get some things finished this past weekend and I am happy to say that is just what I did. I got the borders on my Summer in the Country quilt, and am pleased with how it came out. I wonder what sort of quilting design would be best for this one?

Patt's finished SIC
Pat not only finished her quilt, but it's back from the quilter already! She did a fabulous job and I wish I had thought to include a flag block in my quilt as she did in hers.

Jubilee finished
I also got the borders on Jubilee, a Pattern Basket quilt. The fabrics are from a couple of older collections by Sheri and Chelsi (Summer Sweet) and Coriander Quilts (Canning Day). I have no idea what I'll do with this quilt. It is so summery and cheerful. It would be a good quilt for a little girl I suppose.

I also got the bindings attached to two quilts. Now I just need to sew them down by hand. I have quite a setup next to my tv chair. I have my super bright light, and a handy magnifying glass for when the thread gets tangled. Luckily I can see well enough out of my right eye to do the stitching. It's coming out pretty good I think.

I've been rationalizing that since I have gotten so many projects into the finishing stage, I should probably start something new.  lol. Just a small project, maybe a table runner. I'll share more tomorrow.

Binding set up
Hope you all had a great weekend!

  1. I love a good quilt parade, and yours never disappoints.
I shopped a quilt store hop last week and brought home some great fabrics. I was so tempted to start cutting into them, but I decided it was time to finish something first.

  4. I participated in the Illinois Shop Hop yesterday along with my two daughters. We try to spend a day together every year visiting shops in other parts of the state. I always look for something different to purchase to support the stores and I have quite a bit of a stash, so I was delighted to find the pressing aid you recently recommended. Thanks so much and I look forward to much better seams in the future!

  7. Hurray!! They all look spectacular! You got a LOT done. Always gratifying to make that kind of progress. Weekends I work, so Mondays are my down day but also when I tackle all the dreaded chores.

  10. You did great this weekend! I am trying to finish up a sunflower fabric quilt. I thought it’d be easy peasy but each block has its’ own sashing plus there is sashing between each row. Skinny sashing and intersections have to match. I really wanted this for fall; maybe late late fall at this point!

  13. Isn’t that the best feeling when you get a lot done?? And beautiful quilts they are! I need to follow your lead and finish up a couple quilts. Do your eyes get tired when you spend a lot of time sewing or are they keeping up with you??

  16. Congrats to both you & Pat for finishing your quilts! I like her red & blue pieces on the white outer border. The Jubilee quilt is beautiful. If you don’t use it, you’ll find a home for it when you least expect…just finish it & wait!

  22. Great finishes! Summer in the Country is beautiful, the name of the quilt is perfect. I enjoy hand stitching bindings, especially now when it’s cooler in the evenings. Take care! 🌻

  25. Give a girl a weekend and she sews it all up. Whew, you got a lot accomplished, but you have been working all this summer to get to that point. Your quilts look wonderful and you have the Veterans’ Day holiday yet to have them out to celebrate. Glad to hear you had your eyes checked promptly. MD appears to have some stages but can end negatively for a person who stitches and reads a lot. My brother lives in Santa Cruz, no longer drives. He has a computer set-up that allows him to carry on his reading and studying. I will be looking to him if this situation comes my way.

  28. They are all beautiful! Yay, you!
I actually got binding on 3 quilts over the last couple of weeks. my hands are killing me but it is so wonderful to finish.
2 quilts went to the little girls around the corner. I let them pick from a stack of quilts needing binding. They were so delighted.
When I delivered them this weekend the mom said, “Your precious time!” Someone who actually gets it. ;p
We’re drowning in quilts and fabric here too. I have 3 quilt ladders plus stacks on chairs. oy!

  31. I love, love the Summer in the Country quilt– the blue ribbon canning really speaks to my heart. We went to the big Skowhegan State Fair (Maine) last month and had a blast– especially the quilts on display, of course. So if you really want a flag block, now’s the time to just pick out four seams and patch it in, easy as pie!– just sayin! xox
