Summer in the Country Block 9 Millennium

Millennial final
We have a super easy block this time for our Summer in the Country sew-along. This is Millennium, designed by Becky Thompson @powertoolswiththread. I'll break the block down into simple units for you and you will be finished with it in no time and be able to go sit on the porch with a glass of lemonade.

Mil flying geese
First up is to make 4 flying geese units. Follow the pattern instructions or use your favorite method.

Mil strip units
Four strip sets take no time at all.

Geese and strips
We will be sewing the geese to the strip units. You can do it now or later.

Mil corner units
Make the four corner units as the pattern directs. Now we are ready to put our block together. Here are all the units to make our block.

Mil all units
Four corner units, four flying geese, four strip sets, and the center square.

Layout units
Lay everything out to be sure the units are oriented properly. I like it! Sew it all together.

New 12%22 cute cuts ruler
Trim up your block to 12 1/2". I may have bought some Cute Cuts trim rulers in the block sizes I make most often. Those vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines make squaring up your blocks so easy.

Hope you enjoyed this block! The next one, Firefly, looks like it will be a cinch too. It's a good thing, because I'll bet this week will be a busy one for many of us in the US! What are your plans for the 4th of July? It's supposed to be 103 here that day, so we will be staying inside enjoying the air conditioning.

  1. We are going “Up North” to northern Michigan to spend a few days with our friends at their cabin. Just a relaxing time on the water. Except Michigan is having a “cold spell”; temps at 55 at night with maybe 80 daytime. VERY unusual weather for our summer!
I tried to make a quick 4th of July quilt but life happened, and we’ll put the rows away til next year.

  4. I just spoke with my brother last night and it looks like the Sacramento area is going to be experiencing a heatwave this week with a high of 111 – Yikes! We’ve got cooler temps in Ventura County closer to the ocean. We are going to the beach with my daughter and her family. Happy Fourth of July.

  7. That block is also a cute one! It’s going to be a great quilt, for sure!
Our small town in NW Wyoming is all about the 4th of July starting on June 30 with a once-a-year bull-riding rodeo. There are special rodeos July 1-4 along with parades July 2-4 beginning with a Kiddie Parade down Main Street on the 2nd. That features kids only & their ideas of floats & parade fun. Parades on the 3rd & 4th have bands & floats & lots of horses. There’s a craft fair & food trucks all week in City Park, too. The Grand Finale is a huge fireworks show at dusk on the 4th!

  10. This is another adorable block for your quilt. They all look so happy and cheery!
Heat wave here over the 4th so will probably stay indoors for the most part. Maybe I can get a little sewing of my own done on my latest project. Here’s hoping!
And from Friday’s post – Eva’s new haircut is really grown up and pretty. Glad she is feeling better.
