Posy Blocks Coming Along Slowly

16 posey blocks
The Flea Market posy blocks are coming along. Very slowly. I am completing one in about 20 minutes, which is faster than I was when I first started making them. You can really drag out the time it takes to make a block when you press seams open and trim your units constantly. They are coming out accurately though thank goodness.

The four brownish ones are going in the corners. The colorful ones are so cheerful, aren't they? I am glad I decided to do a border of them after all. 16 down and 24 to go.

24 more to go
I am listening to an audiobook of one of my favorite books from last year. I loved reading the print version of The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. I was listening to a book review podcast and the commentator mentioned that she was so annoyed at the ending of the book she wanted to throw it at the wall. What? What was so wrong with the ending? What even WAS the ending? Obviously, I wasn't upset by it if I can't even remember it. Another person mentioned that the audiobook version of this novel was excellently narrated, so that got me thinking. Why not listen to the book and experience it again but in a different way?

The lincoln highway
I ordered the audiobook and she was right, the narration is terrific. I haven't gotten to the end yet, so that mystery isn't cleared up. I will be sure and let you know my thoughts when I finish it. For any of you who read the book, were you annoyed by the ending? No spoilers, please.

  1. I hope you’ll update us once you finish listening. I looked at its description online, and the book does sound interesting but nothing I think I need right now.

  4. I was absolutely not annoyed by the ending of The LIncoln Highway. As I recall, there was some poetic justice for some characters and some “let’s go on living life as we need to live it” for others. Amor Towles is an amazing writer. Have you read A Gentleman in Moscow? I imagine you have. Now THAT had an ending.

  7. Your blocks are so beautifully sewn! What a sweet quilt these will make!
I read A Gentleman in Moscow and like it very much, and that led me to read Lincoln Highway. He’s a very good writer. I don’t currently have the means to listen to books, but will have to do that, since reading takes away from quilting time. What if I could do both at the same time?

  10. I need to try listening to a book while quilting. The thing is I tend to miss so much of the book while listening that I don’t miss while reading??? Anyways, I loved the Lincoln Highway and so recommended it to my sis in law and she hated the ending and I thought it was the perfect ending! In quilting news, I’ve signed up for the Tiny Nine Patch Challenge. I’ve saved repro strips for years to make this particular quilt, so I jumped on board. Look it up on Instagram if you want to see what it’s all about.

  16. Posie blocks are so colorful and cheery! Love Amor Towles – both Lincoln Highway (which I did do on Audible as well) and Gentleman In Moscow. Such a good writer.

  28. This was one of the best books I read in the last few years. I liked the ending but can understand why some do not. I think he has a new book coming out this year.

  31. Your posies are cute! Although I’ve never worked with that style of fabric, I always find the prints to be cheerful.
I really enjoyed the Lincoln Highway, as I do all his books. I wasn’t annoyed at the end, but was sad that it had to finish as I was enjoying the characters so much. His first novel, Rules of Civility as also excellent.

  34. The ending leaves open all sorts of possibilities…which I liked but apparently that isn’t universal, lol. Love the posies! I feel like a cheat because I have finished some inherited nine patches which finish at 3 inches so I am up one on the sew-a-long…listening to books while I am sewing is the best. I can’t watch TV and sew, something to do with thinking while using my eyes for two things.
