A Brilliant New Tool You Are Sure to Want

Messy threads
One of my biggest sewing peeves are those little threads that are left behind when you have to rip out your sewing. Sometimes I find myself with the tweezers and a magnifying glass to pick up all the pesky little strays. You all know what I am talking about, right? This is a universal pain in the you-know-what.

I can't remember where I first heard about this little Seam Fix gadget, but I did buy one from Fatquarter Shop. It is a seam ripper with a special cap that removes those threads.

How does that work?

Getting rid of threads
Simply rub the rubbery tip over the threads and it somehow picks them up out of the just ripped seam.

Ta da
The silicone tip is kind of sticky and works great to slough off all those threads. I felt like I was using it in much the same way as I would an eraser. I had to wipe the thread bits off the bulb once or twice but found it very effective. It certainly was way faster than picking threads out with my fingers or tweezers.

Here is a YouTube "tutorial" on how to use it. The seam ripper part is obvious, but the thread removal aspect is brilliant.

Seam fix
Have you tried the Seam Fix? What did you think? If not, do you think you might like it?

  1. I’ve had one for 7 or 8 years and it is genius. What a time saver too. I don’t like leaving those threads behind. In fact I have 2 of them just in case…

  4. I agree with Mary. Sounds very interesting, and I can think it could be a fun holiday gift for a couple of my sewing friends. Thanks for the recommendation.

  13. Thanks, Nicole. This is a great idea. It may be too late this year, but would you sometime consider a list of favorite sewing notions as gift ideas? My sister has quite the sewing room, but I’m always looking for something that would be quite handy for her as a gift.
    Thanks!

  16. I have used this tool for many years. It also includes a seam ripper . . . two tools in one. Especially helpful to remove threads from black fabric.

  19. I’ve used the clover brand of seam ripper for years and always liked it and the ergonomic shape that felt good in my hand. I was gifted the Seam Fix and love it! The Silicone cap works so well for cleaning up threads. There is also a mini one that I keep in my binding bag. Even if it’s necessary rip, the right tool makes it easier.

  22. Love this little tool. I like to make little zippered bags for my sewing friends and put this, a frixon pen, and a cute pair if embroidery scissors in them.

  25. Have one, use it, love it. Amazing how it can zero in on those little twits of thread and free them off my sewing surface.

  28. I, too, have used the Seam Fix ripper for quite awhile…long enough to be on my second one because the ripper part became dull. I use the mini size, but also have a bigger one that has a stiletto on the other end. I also use the rubber end when I’m snipping machine embroidery connecting threads between letters, etc. It helps to ‘clean’ the threads off the rubber part by swiping it across a lint roller lying on its side! Seam Fix is a great little gift for quilters in your life!

  31. I have several that were gifted to me. They work great as long as you don’t get too close to the cut edge of the fabric as I find they can make your fabric fray. I also had one that got hard and of course stopped working. I do use it and find it very helpful to get those darn stray threads out when I have to rip out a seam!!
