Dipping My Toe Back In The Water

Week 2 sum mem
This is week 2 of the Summer Memories sew-along and I fear I am going to fall behind rather disastrously.

I did no sewing last week, which is when these four blocks should have been completed. I dived in today, with enthusiasm, but ran into some roadblocks.

I must not have had all my wits about me when I cut out the fabrics for these blocks. I thought I only had to make three blocks, which was my first serious error. I needed four blocks (each with four basket blocks). Then I miscalculated the number of half-square triangles of the blue basket fabrics I needed. By half. So, I was busy trying to make up for those errors and only managed to complete one of the four blocks.

Sum mem 2
My mind just wasn't fully engaged, I guess. I will try again today and hope to see a bit more of an accomplishment.

Ack. I guess we all experience sewing days like this. These blocks are time-consuming, and not all that fun if you aren't 100% into half-square triangles. You can probably guess where I am leaning at this point.

  1. Agree with the first comment— don’t give up! I am making this vicariously through you! LOL. It’s a gorgeous quilt and I know you can do it! You did write ten articles on backyard trends, after all. Xoxo

  4. I can understand your frustration. That’s a lot of work for one week! I normally have 2 or 3 projects going on at once and would really have trouble keeping up with this. But, it will be pretty a pretty quilt….

  7. I take a different route. If it doesn’t bring you joy, stop, use the blocks already made for an original creation. Let go of the shoulda, woulda, coulda and take some pressure off.

  10. I’ll cheer you on or agree it’s time to let the project go…whichever you decide to do. But, I have to agree with Betty, if it were my frustration, I’d be packing up the fabric & putting the blocks in a project box to use for something else in the future. You need to do what makes you happy!

  13. I’m with Jan and Betty. I hate feeling stressed when something is supposed to be fun.
You already have enough ‘work’ in your life. Sewing is supposed to be fun and creative. That’s my view anyway.
You might be inspired to make something else with those beautiful colors if you look through your patterns/books. I love looking at mine. Inspires me to organize and plan.

  16. I hear ya! I’m working on 448 half square triangles done with triangles on a roll for the Spring Migration quilt. I have to keep on putting it down for awhile. Eventually I will get it done with modifications.
