Christmas Among the Stars Again Month 5

Fullsizeoutput_2010

Sew for an hour a day. Well, it's a great idea, and I am trying. The weekends are tricky because I care for my father. Sewing just isn't in the cards. That being said, whatever time I spend working on something is worth it in the end, even if it's just a few hours each week.

This block is one of two for month  5 of the Christmas Among the Stars sew-along. I managed to make it Sunday afternoon after I got home from my dad's house. Going to try to make the second one today.

And guess what? I just found out that there is BlockHeads #4 planned to start this Wednesday! This time the sew-along is supposedly less elaborate and only runs for six months ( March through September)rather than a whole year. The previous BlockHeads sew-alongs were kind of an ordeal to tell you the truth. I loved making the blocks, but I still haven't quite put all my blocks together for BlockHeads #3. There is only one row to go, but I sure did run out of steam with it. It is massive and awfully complicated (busy) looking.

The BlockHeads 4 just has twenty-five 9-inch blocks and a fairly simple setting. I like the plan Joanna from Fig Tree & Co. is showing on her blog. I am mulling over if I want to do it. I have all the fabric on hand and wouldn't have to buy a thing. I had bought Fig Tree's Pumpkin Blossom fat quarter bundle plus background and haven't used it, so I'm good to go. The fabric requirements say you can make this quilt with a layer cake or fat eighths plus 2 1/2 yds background!

Have you even heard a thing about BlockHeads 4? Do you think you'll participate?

Happy Spring everyone. My gosh I am craving warmer weather!

  1. Yup, I’m going to do it! I’m going to use a background and layer cake I have. People are showing what they will be using and it’s really interesting and inspiring. I admit I thought some of the previous quilts were too busy so that will be my challenge to make it busy enough but not too much so. I think the nine inch size will make it manageable.

  4. No, I am not participating in Blockheads 4. I did Blockheads 2 and by the end, I found it more of a chore. Quite honestly, I am not in any need of a large size quilt so am trying to not make any more of that size.

  7. It does sound like they are making it simpler. I really felt previous BHs were “messy”,, except for the folks who used a lot of sashing to break it up. I’m on the fence on this one. Your block is lovely. I’m slowly doing Coriander’s Christmas quilt which has some of the same feel to it. I know it’s hard when you give up your weekends to your dad.. The last years with my mom were challenging, but I don’t regret it.

  10. I have never participated in any Blockheads sewing but I am meeting with one of the Moda designers tomorrow for a Sit & Stitch (Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings) and Iam sure she will motivate me to participate! I certainly own enough fabric:)

  13. I’m not planning to join BH 4, but enjoy seeing what others come up with! Very fun that Vikki W. above is sewing with a Mode designer tomorrow! You & your sisters will always know that you were there for your dad & the time is well-spent. It’s bound to warm up pretty soon because it’s officially Spring!

  16. I am going to do BH4, incorporating the 4.5 inch blocks into my Little Blocks 4.5 project. I like the layouts Joanna of Fig Tree showed on her blog; that setting is now in the running for my project.

  19. I haven’t done any of the blockheads because a year was just too long for me. So this might be right up my alley! I’d love to do a Halloween or patriotic version. Gonna be looking to see if that first block grabs me!
