Moda BlockHeads 3- More 12 inch Blocks

This is ModaBlockHeads 3 Block 37 by Vanessa Goertzen. Look at that. 12. Count them. 12 square in a square blocks. My nemesis. They always come out wonky. Or at least they used to. Now that Fatquartershop.com has come out with paper piecing tablets for this tricky block, there are no more problems with it.

I need to make more 12" blocks for my Moda BlockHeads 3 project. I had only 8, and am scrambling to make a few more for the layout I want to do.

I used the tablet of 3 1/2" unfinished square in a square block papers to make these 12 blocks. Each one came out straight and perfect. It was a breeze to make these blocks and I highly recommend having the papers on hand when the time comes to construct this particular tricky block.

My progress is coming along great and I am excited with each block I finish in my adventure to complete this year-long project.

Yesterday I worked on more paper piecing, making some of my Little Blocks 365 blocks. I finished five blocks from weeks two and three. Some of them were easy and some of them were brain-twisting challenges. I have to admit, I had a couple of false starts and had to start over.

Hope you are all having a wonderful start to your week!

  1. What a smart way to get such nice little square in a square blocks. You seem to be a fan of paper piecing which I have limited experience with. Do you have a post on your favorite tools/tricks for this method? I’ve been eyeing a couple of quilts that might be a lot more fun if I paper pieced them and quit worrying about points, etc. Because sometimes a girl just wants to have fun in her sewing.

  4. I am also playing catch-up with the Little Blocks 365. Last night I completed block 12 and did the math for the setting. Do you realize it is going to take at least 2 yards for the “rails?”

  7. Well, they do turn out nice with the papers! And your points are lovely. I haven’t had too much trouble with SIS, but for this many paper piecing would be the way to go.

I had had the simple folded corners ruler for years and finally just started using it…so made my square in a square blocks with that.
