Hope you all had a splendid Mother's Day, if it is a day you celebrate. Here I am, enjoying one of my Mother's Day presents–new rocking chairs for my front porch! And of course, there is Ozzie, plaguing me while I am trying to enjoy my book.
We have a super long front porch, and this one section has been left unadorned, with all of our sitting and dining areas towards the other end. When we bought the house we purchased a "sitting set", consisting of a love seat, a couple of comfy chairs, and a couple of tables. We also got a matching dining table which you can kind of see way down at the end of the photo. The porch wraps around on one side. It is really an extension of the house's living areas, and we use it 8 or 9 months out of the year.
I am fortunate to have so many nice places to sit around the house, especially during isolation times. I can't imagine being stuck in an apartment with no place to go for fresh air. I have long maintained that any porch worth it's salt must have a rocking chair. Finally, my wish came true.
My reading mojo seems to have come back and I finished three books last week! A five-star, a four-star and a three-star. The five-star book gave me a book hangover, and it will be a while before something touches me as much as that one did. Ok, I won't make you wait.
Where the Lost Wander by Amy Harmon was SO good! First of all, I love historical fiction and I really really love a good pioneer saga. You know, settlers going West across America to California or Oregon in search of the American Dream, experiencing all sorts of hardship with stiff upper lips. This book was so satisfying. There was lots of action, a slow-burning romance, brave strong women, plucky children, noble Indians, wretched Indians, (noble white people and wretched white people too) conflict, this book had everything that ticked my boxes for the genre. A wagon train leaves Illinois in 1853 on the Overland Trail, bound for California. The hardship and adventure that was encountered were both inspirational and heartbreaking. The author's storytelling was first-rate. This book gets a big thumbs up. Best of all? You can get it for $4.99 on Amazon for your Kindle!

We have those same chairs and table in gray. Love sitting in them and enjoying the outdoors. Hope you enjoy yours too.

Oh my! I have serious porch envy. I’ve always wanted a large porch, our front porch is narrow and only holds two chairs and a side table. I have a back deck but it is uncovered so only usable in really nice weather. I ordered your book recommendation for my kindle. Thanks for the suggestion, I usually like what you read.

I always love a good pioneer story; I simply can’t imagine what it must have been like for the women. A tough bunch for sure! I’m currently reading Westering Women by Sandra Dalls. She is always a good writer.

That looks like the perfect spot for reading, all you need is your beverage of choice (can Ozzie bring it to you?)!

Your new rocking chairs are beautiful. Ozzie looks like he wants to hop in your lap to rock with you while you read! Your porch is lovely & it’s easy to see why you enjoy it so much! Stay well!

yay for rocking chairs! I covet your beautiful front porch. I think about the people stuck in apartments/condos and hard that must be. can you imagine having kids stuck inside like that? no yard to run around in? it is rough and it is going to get worse before things get better. 🙁

Loved seeing your porch, Nicole…reminds me of the one we had in Pioneer, which ran all the way around the house.
Definitely going to get Where the Heart Wanders for my iPad…I spent my grammar school years in Eastern Oregon, very near the Oregon Trail. Love historical fiction!

Your front porch looks so amazing! I’d love to have one, but here in Central Indiana, we wouldn’t get as much time on it. Thanks for the book rec, adding it to my list, which keeps getting longer and longer!

Thanks so much for the book recommendation! I just finished Where the Lost Wander tonight and have so enjoyed reading it over the last few days. It’s been a great distraction from zooming and schoolwork!
