New Project: First Flake

First flake

I have started a new project for January, called First Flake.  Thelma (Cupcakes 'n' Daisies) made one and as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…  I ordered the pattern from an Etsy seller and chose some dark blue fabric with a snow flake pattern.  I have been starching it in batches for days, and finally have begun to cut and piece my strips.  I also paper pieced all the half square triangles with triangle paper.

I am so excited to get started with this project as I believe it will be a fast, fun, and seasonally themed quilt.

My fabric is an older Primitive Gatherings print from one of their Snowman Gatherings collections.

Just a quick post today because besides making strips, I am making pizza!  My new obsession.  The one in the photo is chicken, carmelized shallots, goat cheese, corn and tomatoes.  I make my own pizza dough in the processor and it is the best crust ever!

  1. Yummy and love home made pizza! So much better than some of the kinds you get out there. Can’t wait to see the Blue and White First Flake and I was thinking of a blue one also….somehow I was thinking blue is going to be my color this year….good luck and keep us posted.

  4. That pizza looks goooood! I made a snowflake quilt last month too! Unfortunately, I didn’t have a pattern, just a photo. The day I finished it, I found a “Snowflake” quilt sewalong which gave the name of the pattern. Oh well, I think the blue will be beautiful. I used Christmas scrappy fabrics for mine, think the blue will be better. Make sure you have a place to drape or hang, it doesn’t look very interesting otherwise. I can’t wait to see it!

  7. That pizza looks delicious. I might add roasted garlic to it, but I know not everyone feels the need to ward off Dracula. That quilt is similar to one I’ve had my eye on, so excited to see yours.

  19. Thelma inspired me to make First Flake too, but I have some other projects ahead of it. Your pizza sounds delicious! Do you use a pizza oven or a special pan to bake it on?

  25. When my sister and I were at our Sewtopia retreat, three different snowflakes occupied design walls! As we were one of the last folks leaving the last day, I noticed someone forgot theirs on a design wall while cleaning up! Lots of stitching to put these together but a fun design. Your pizza looks great. I just bought some goat cheese and had it on a spinach salad…yum.
