Since I am desperate for a touch of Spring, I've been in a mood to make some small quilts in a lighter color palette. My favorite dark reds, golds and browns seem so heavy right now when my soul is craving lighter more delicate tones. Pale green in particular.
I recently rediscovered a tub of Fig Tree fabrics that I had packed away. I used to do a lot with Fig Tree fabrics, and then for some reason, fell away from it. Lately, I have been paying attention to the Fig Tree Christmas and Halloween collections and it made me recall my stash. In the tub I had some very pretty light greens that paired well with some butterscotch tones which were also on hand.
Along with the stash of vintage Fig Tree fabric, I also had a number of Fig Tree patterns. The one I pulled out to use for this project is called Sweet Clover. I doubt if stores still carry it, but I did see a couple of patterns for sale on eBay. What I thought was in keeping with my Spring theme, was that the block forms a sweet flower design. It is basically four inch half square triangles with sew and flip corner squares to give the block unit a rounded petal shape. I will have to machine applique the center circle, but that is not a big deal. This pattern is giving my Doug Leko Folded Corner ruler a real work out. I have used that little ruler in so many projects lately.
I've really enjoyed working with these pretty fabrics and think I may order some future Fig Tree lines. Their "Christmas Figs" collection was wonderful and they are releasing a Halloween themed group "All Hallow Eve" in June.
How about you? Are you fighting the Winter doldrums as well? What springy projects are you planning to counter act the gloom of Winter?

Pretty blocks – a new pattern to me. I have the Folded Corner ruler, and love it. I have not perfected the flying geese yet, but I have gotten several to come out perfect. For some reason, even using the folded corner ruler, where the point meets in the middle always is a little out of line. I had to make I had to make 40 of these the other day, and of the 40, I think 5 came out perfect. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Your table runner is pretty. I have several projects that are close to being finished but I am bored with them. SO…I started a new 9 patch quilt with some Jo fabrics and a small piece of embroidery. I haven’t done any stitching for a long time but both are keeping me busy. I can’t wait for new Halloween fabric. I am definitely making a new Halloween quilt this year! have a great day Nicole.

We’ve been in a cycle of snow and very low temperatures for weeks. I threatened to throw myself on the floor like a two year old the other day if it didn’t quit. A spring quilt seems like a much more adult solution. Those green pineapple blocks you did really caught my eye.

I’m working on a quilt using V. & Co.’s confetti ombre fabrics–bright & happy fabrics for a long-dreary-snowy-below-zero-temperatures spell! Teresa, run to buy Monique Dillard’s Fit-To-Be-Geese rulers & you won’t struggle with flying geese any longer! I learned about them right here on Nicole’s blog, of course!

What a delightful little quilt! Love the block, too, and the fabrics are wonderful.
I’ve been shopping my large stash for years, only buying yardage for borders or for backing. Good thing we love scrap quilts! 🙂
Hugs!

Nice and springlike! Just what we all need now (rather than the huge dump of snow I see happening outside my window). I always love Fig Tree fabrics, and recently completed a quilt from an older line — still love it! Thanks for the taste of spring.

Just have to say I love Fig Tree fabric. She really knows how to give that soft, vintage look with her color palette. I’ve also used several of her patterns and she writes them so clearly. Great looking little quilt!

I just love everything Fig Tree, such soft vintagey feels. What a nice combo you put together, makes me want to break into my springey fabric!

Really lovely! I’m just glad I don’t live along a river. Unbelievable what’s happening again in Sonoma County. ugh.
