Back in the Saddle and a Give Away

Hello friends, hope you all had a great weekend and are getting used to Daylight Savings Time.  As I write this, it is only 3:00 in the afternoon and I am thinking I should turn on the lights inside.  It always takes me awhile to get used to the time change.  Ozzie, not so much.  Light is light to him, and he knows when we all need to rise and shine. He was peering into my sleeping face at 5:00 this morning wondering when I was going to get up.

I am back in my sewing room, and would like to celebrate that by having a little give away.  I was searching for a pattern over the weekend, and since all 9000 of my quilt patterns were strewn around the room, I thought I might go through them and cull out the ones I know I will never make.  As you can see by the photo, there are quite a few.  As a matter of fact, there will be three winners to this giveaway, as I think I can fill three padded envelopes with patterns.

There will be no rhyme or reason to what is in each pack.  As Eva says, "You get what you get, so don't throw a fit".  If you win, you might pass them on to your guild or other organization who might have a use for them.  Keep some, give some away. Don't get me wrong, there is some good stuff in the mix, it just isn't a cohesive mix.  There are some more intermediate level patterns, but most are suitable for a beginner quilter.

Leave a comment to this post telling me what you might do with the patterns should you win them.  I’ll announce the winners tomorrow.

  1. Like you, I’d consider which patterns I’d actually make. What I would not use would be donated to our guild for doorprizes (I’m doorprize chair) since I’m always looking for door prize items!

  7. I think it would be fun to see what patterns you have selected and then match them up to the fabric in my stash. Most of my fabric was purchased with a particular project in mind, but some I bought just because I like it, and it’s waiting for just the right pattern to come along. Maybe you have just what I need.

  10. Have you ever purchased fabric for a quilt and then before you made it, LOOK!, they just came out with a new collection and that would look so much better? Well, I’m sure I could use that lonely fabric in the patterns and turn it in to a creation instead of it decorating my shelves. Looking at this as a challenge to make it happen.

  16. I would enjoy perusing through the collection, selecting the ones I would be most likely to make, then I would offer the same opportunity to 6 women who I quilt with every Tuesday evening. The remaining patterns would be placed on my guild’s sharing table–a must look at every meeting for treasures.

  19. I’m so happy you’re back in your sewing room. I hope you find peace and joy there.
I know exactly what I would do with your patterns – I would give them to the women in my quilt group. We meet every Monday afternoon to sew charity quilts. We are a small group but have gotten very close – I notice that every time we get together, we spend the first 30 minutes (or longer) just chatting. Sharing about our kids, grandkids, gardens, church. These are wonderful women and I am so privileged to be with them.
I always love reading your blog and watching your sewing progress and sharing in your struggles.
Thanks for the giveaway – best wishes to you.

  31. I would share them of course! I spend almost every Friday quilting with a wonderful small group of ladies. I have to admit, sometimes it seems we do more socializing then sewing! But we always have fun. Over time we have become the best of friends. I would gladly share with them! Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  37. Well we have very similar tastes, so I’d imagine that I’d find a few that I’d want to make!! And the rest would go to our guild. I’ve been patiently waiting for you to post on a new project….hint, hint!!! I am also looking for a new project to start, but I should be starting on a log cabin quilt for my son that he has asked for. Have a great week, Nicole.

  52. I’d be thrilled to win anything from you. lol. What would I do with the patterns? Well, I’m heading into retirement; and one of the things I want to do is sew charity quilts – nursing home lap quilts, Quilts of Valor, baby quilts for the WIC program. My grandson was stillborn, and we attended his memorial service over the weekend. Now I want to look into making small quilts for the hospital for these special parents.

  58. I’d make a cup of tea and enjoy browsing through all the patterns. I’d probably keep a few and pass the rest onto a local charity that has a quilt sale each spring to raise money for disaster relief. They have a Quilters Shop where patterns, books and fabrics are sold to raise more funds.

  61. Thank you for the opportunity to win patterns! I am always on the lookout for a good pattern to make quilts we give through the quilting ministry at church. I would share them with the ladies so that we all could make quilts for this purpose.

  82. I have been making baby quilts for the hospital. My granddaughter was in NICU for 88 days and they had baby quilts under them. When all parents see it a tiny baby with lots of tubes and wires, a bright cheerful quilt is hopeful. Then Lily had 2 separate open heart surgeries and that hospital had quilts under the kids also. That’s what I would do with the patterns.

  97. What a generous offer! I have so many patterns & books I’ll pass on the drawing because I should probably offer a stack of mine to others! Eva is so funny–where did she learn that phrase?? Nice that she ‘gets’ it & can apply where it’s appropriate! Ozzie’s wake up stare down would make me laugh! Have a good week!

If I should win one of your bundles, I would pick out the ones I would like to make, then let my quilting buddies have a look at them. 124. Ah, Thanks for the chance to win an envelope full of new-to-me patterns! My sweetly beribboned bundles of fabrics might just find patterns to go with them! Oh course, most would be shared with friends because that;s just what quilters do.
Am happy you’re back in your sewing sewing room! As for Ozzie at 5am, well, don’t you wish dogs and cats could tell time!
    Hugs!

  125. Ah, Thanks for the chance to win an envelope full of new-to-me patterns! My sweetly beribboned bundles of fabrics might just find patterns to go with them! Oh course, most would be shared with friends because that;s just what quilters do.

  127. Since I adore most everything you make, I am sure I’d find several patterns to keep for myself. The others I would share with two friends who thought they would never quilt again after surgery and a life event where they became depressed…and gave away most of their quilting supplies! Now they have decided they want/need to quilt, and after more encouragement, are finding they still enjoy their old hobby. I’ve shared fabric and notions and, yes, patterns and magazines to get them started again. The most important thing to share has been my time with them. I have enjoyed their re-entry into the quilting world and my time has been well worth it, both for me and them! Thanks for the giveaway, Nicole.

  136. Thank you for sharing with all of us! Of course there must be at least one pattern in there that I must make and then there are the Quilting Bees! We gather every Tuesday to work on quilts for local fire victims, children’s hospitals, QOV and nursing homes. What a fun way to share the spirit is giving!

  139. So sweet of you to share your excess patterns.
For me I have lots of fabric with no patterns so this would be a windfall.
I’ll gladly share this bonanza with others in my similar predicament.
    Thanks for your generosity!

  142. I teach quilting classes at my church, free of charge. We donate quilts to the Graduates of a “halfway women’s program” for those entering back into society after incarceration. I’m certain we could use these as our up coming projects.

  145. I need to do the same thing with my patterns. Sounds like a good project for today. Then if I win some of your patterns, I’d keep what I think I’ll make and pass the rest along to other quilters. There’s a senior center near me that has a quilting group. Seems like that would be a good place to start sharing them.

  148. I think we all could go thru our patterns and realize there are some patterns that we will never make. Yet I continue to purchase new patterns. I do hope that I will still be able to quilt at age 120 since I will need to live that long to use everything. That said, sure I’d like new patterns and I would pass on whatever I didn’t “need!”

  151. I would do what most of those answering this would do–keep some and give to members of my quilt group. We make some charity quilts and are always looking for patterns, especially for new quilters as we have several new members who who have never quilted before. Have a great day and thanks for the opportunity.

  154. Lots of nice patterns you have! Our taste runs similar. I’d pick out some for me. The rest I’d share with a couple quilting buddies since I don’t belong to a guild.

  160. I usually share patterns with quilters who don’t have the funds to purchase patterns all the time. I usually give away patterns once I’ve used it. Some patterns are so expensive. Thank you for sharing.

  178. First I would fondle them. I may – or may not – keep one or two. I would give the rest to a couple of thrift shops that I frequent as it is really a rare find to find quilting supplies at thrift stores… And then I would probably go back to said thrift stores and purchase them back… if they were not scooped up!!!

  184. Hehe, I have some of those same patterns! But I would be happy to have more copies, so I can give them to the ladies in my quilt group. We live overseas, and there is no access to printed patterns here, so I know they would love to have them.
