Is that not the coolest quilt block? If you made the log cabin sections 6" square, and added 2 x 3" flying geese, your finished block would measure about 15" square, which would be the perfect size for a candle mat or a little table topper. Or, you could sew three or four blocks together and have a longer runner. I think it is so interesting to look at! Imagine a whole quilt with this block. Wow. I like both versions, but think I am leaning more towards the red block with the darker center.
I'm sorry I can't give credit to the maker. The photo popped up in my Pinterest feed, and there was no credit or link to the person who made it. If anyone knows, let me know and I will give a proper reference.
I have little news and no work of my own to share this week, so when I saw it I thought at least I could post something! I'm in the dog days of summer here for sure. My plan is to sew this weekend, and try to stay cool. I will sit at my sewing machine with the fan blowing on me and hope all my little pieces don't blow all over the room.

Brenda commented that this block by Vanessa Goertzen (Moda BlockHeads 2, Block 5) is very similar. The block in this photo was made by Moda Michelle. There are other versions on Instagram if you search for #modablockheads2. I still really like the complexity making the corner squares log cabin blocks adds. It kind of takes it up a notch.

Both blocks are lovely. I seem to recall having seen versions of the block. Perhaps it’s from one of Moda’s sew alongs.

Tomorrow is our annual Canoe Carnival, so I’m working a half day, then will go work on the float for a bit. With the heat and humidity this year, I haven’t been able to help at all because my pain level has been so high. I’m hoping that I can make it through the next three days between my Percocet and medical marijuana! If not, I’ll just have to sit in the A/C and watch the floats go by!!!

Wow that’s so pretty! But I think the flying geese need to be 2″ x 3.5″ unfinished and 1.5″ x 3″ finished, right? If you don’t mind I would love to copy that block for the #12minisin12month challenge.
