I have been sewing up a storm these past few days! I got my Barn Stars all finished, and will probably put that little quilt top together after the Thanksgiving holiday. As much as I hate to drag myself away from the QE440, I do have some cooking to do for the feast day.
My holiday table is set and my flowers arranged. I sure hope the arrangement lasts through Thursday! I will enjoy it this week, and then bring out everything Christmassy this coming weekend. We are a small group this year, just my daughter Sara and her husband. We will brine the turkey and my son in law will smoke it on Thursday.
Thanksgiving always seems like such a simple meal to me, and I always wonder why such a fuss is made over the cooking. Roast a bird, mash some potatoes, make some stuffing and gravy, create another side dish or two, and make a pie. I guess it is the sheer volume of dishes that throws some folks, as well as coordinating everything getting done at the same time, which is no joke. The dishes themselves are pretty easy. And if you are having a crowd, you can always delegate the side dishes and desserts.
Things can go wrong however. I do remember the first time I hosted Thanksgiving, I put all the potato peelings down the garbage disposal and backed the plumbing up throughout the entire house. Never did that again. My husband spent the evening up on the roof with a plumber's snake trying to clear the pipes.

I cook a lot for groups at our church and the thing that throws me about Thanksgiving is all the people who are busy “helping” by moving things I’ve put into position for use, or simply crowding up the kitchen. I can’t take my eyes off the yellow/gold & the turquoise blocks! They’re definitely my favorites! Hope they get placed next to one another! Your table looks very festive & the menu is what Thanksgiving should be! We have 14 at our table. We do 2 turkeys & everyone brings something to share.

The fuss at my house is about getting it clean.
I feel as if I have to clean my drawers, cupboards and windows before guests come. I don’t like chores but do like the results.

This will be one of the 1st Thanksgivings I am not with my extended family. It will just be Hubster Daughter #2 and I, instead of the 50+ family members back home. We are smoking a whole chicken and making ribs. DD has requested mashed potatoes though, she rarely makes home made mashed pots living on her own. Lovely table.

I bought my QE 440 used also. I had previously owned a low end Bernina which truly impressed me. I love the 440 but I have not yet tried the stitch regulator. Maybe after I retire.

Oh, how well I remember the Thanksgiving when I did the same thing. Who knew potato peels were so dangerous! I stacked my all my dishes in the shower until the plumbing was fixed the next day. According to our plumber, it is the most common Thanksgiving disaster. Hope yours is good this year!
