Halloween Log Cabin Table Topper

IMG_4133

This past week I was playing around with my Creative Grids Log Cabin Trim Tool (6"), and made a super cute table topper for my son in law, the wine maker.  I used a honey bun (roll of 1 1/2" strips) to make the blocks, and they turned out so accurate.  I truly do love a trim tool, and you will see me using a number of them in upcoming posts.  I didn't even have a pattern, I just used the instructions on the ruler to make a 6 inch log cabin block.  I made eight blocks, surrounded them with a narrow black containment border, then made a bunch of four patches for the outer border.

It turned out so cute I think I need to make one for myself! The fabric is Reel Time by Zen Chic.  Not a Halloween collection per se, but the colors are perfect.  I used a couple of Halloween fabrics for the center squares of some of the blocks, and the over all effect says "Halloween" to me at any rate!

I highly recommend this trim tool, and want to make more Log Cabin blocks using it.

  7. That’s a super cute topper! The fabrics make a ‘sophisticated’ Halloween quilt just perfect for a son-in-law’s home! I’ll bet Eva likes it, too!

  10. While I agree the fabric is not the cutest it sure made a great table topper. The subtle colors and lively light prints work well with the black border.
