Triangle Gatherings Update

I am making good progress with my Triangle Gatherings blocks.  I think I will do two and a half more rows and this top will be done.  So  that is 14 more blocks.  I pretty much love everything about this project.  I switched gears 30 some blocks into the sew along.  I had started out with 6 1/2 inch blocks using shades of blues from Primitive Gatherings Snowman Gatherings collections.  I still like those blocks and will use them in another project for sure.  Just need a setting idea….

What caused me to switch gears and remake my blocks in different fabrics was an inspiration I got on Facebook.  One of the participants in the sew along had the brilliant idea to surround the triangle blocks with stars and I knew I had to do it.  Only if I used my blue and white 6 1/2" blocks, the resulting block size would be too big.

I had a stash of fabrics that I had been collecting for a few years in reds, light blue, gold and black.  I loved the purity of the hues together and knew the right project would announce itself one day.  I decided to start over with my triangle blocks, making them in a smaller 4 1/2" size and surrounding them with the star points.  The final block size is 8" finished.  A great size for this project.  I think the star point surrounds really showcase the variety of patterns in the block centers.  The cohesiveness of the star blocks, each with a different center is quite wonderful I think.   Hard to believe each on of those blocks is made up of 16 half square triangles, each arranged differently!

  4. Bravo! And, well done! It’s going to be one of those quilts you can’t let go to another home!

  7. Love your blocks! I consistently reduce the size of blocks too. Everyone thinks I’m crazy but big blocks are just so ugly! I love the idea of framing the blocks with stars! I framed some tiny blocks with barn blocks but not stars. I may have to try that- it’s really great!
