Countdown To Christmas

It's Christmas in July!  Last week on Moda The Cutting Table blog, Carrie posted a pillow she had made (and free Christmas Village pattern) using an older fabric line called Countdown to Christmas by Sweetwater.  I vaguely recalled purchasing that fabric line back in 2011.  I had had a project in mind, and the fabric was all neatly stored away in a project box on the top shelf of my closet.  I got out the step stool and had a look, and sure enough the box with fabric was still up there.  No clue what I had in mind to make with it, but I had three charm packs and some larger cuts of yardage from the line.

Finding this fabric was like finding a buried treasure, I tell you.  This is one of the all time greatest holiday fabric lines for sure.  I did not waste any time, but cracked out this little quilt in a couple of hours.  My plan is to make two of them, (one for me and one for Sara) and use them as little table toppers this holiday season.  The project finishes at around 16 x 29, so it makes a nice topper for a rectangular table, such as a hall table or sofa table which is viewed from one direction.  Actually, it would be nice on that buffet in the background of the photo below.

There are loads of other fabric lines that would be adorable for this pattern.  Click on the links and check out these beautiful holiday fabric lines.   Basic Grey's Berry Merry, Sweetwater's Hometown Christmas Edition,  or perhaps Minick and Simpson's Snowfall.  Come to think of it, why not make a Halloween village?  Deb Strain's new collection called Eerily Elegant that could be perfect.   4. I saw this on Carrie’s blog the other day. It is so cute. I have this house pattern of her’s and last year I made a Halloween house wall quilt. I swear I could have kept making these forever. it is so dang cute and I only wish it was bigger! So fun! You did a great job.

  13. I started talking about Christmas dinner and all the family travel plans just yesterday. Plus i’m working on a redwork snowman stitchery…and I just bound a Christmas quilt that had been in the works for several years, so I totally get this post. Such a cute pattern and yes, this is a great fabric collection for this!

  28. This is hands-down my favorite Christmas line ever! I wish they’d reprint it. I display a Christmas quilt made with this line every year in my office and everyone wants one! I have a very little bit left that I am hoarding – LOL!
