Forsythia

IMG_1533

Just a quickie post.  This gorgeous forsythia bush is growing along my front walkway.  I remember being just a kid and seeing the yellow forsythia blooming along our driveway, always the first sign of spring.  Sometimes there was even snow still on the ground!  I love the cheerful yellow blooms on this bush, and the pleasant memories I have of it growing between our house and my grandma's..

I have been visiting my father this past week, and am happy to say that he is able to get along all right on his own now.  He has been thoroughly enjoying the attention, company and home cooked meals provided by his daughters for the past month, that goes without saying.  Now if he really will get out of his chair and make his own sandwich…

I am looking forward to getting back to my normal routine starting tomorrow.  More quilting related posts are coming up.  Or at least a fabric shopping post.

On another subject–did you ever see a worst Oscars?  Whew.  Had a real hard time sitting through it.  In fact I failed.

Hope you all had  great weekend!

  1. Cheers that your dear dad is doing so well as to be ready to live on his own once again!! Cheers, too, that life can get back to normal for his family. How sweet that will be for all of you. Will your nephew return to living with your father? Hope his fractures have also mended well.
Today would have been my mother’s 100th birthday, tho being a Leap Year baby, she would have said she was just 25 birthdays old! I remember loving the Straw Hat cologne she wore when I was a child and I have a reproduction bottle of it. I plan to spritz some cologne in the air today and close my eyes…
    Hugs!

  4. Glad that your Dad is progressing in his recovery and how wonderful and lucky that your family live closeby to help out.
Your forsythia reminds me of my childhood also, as I lived in the Midwest and forsythia bushes lined our backyard.
I never bother to watch the Awards shows… They always seem to drag on for far too long and now they have multiplied to the point that it seems there is one of these types of awards shows on every other week!

  7. Good to hear good news about your Dad. He will miss his girls! The Oscars were awful. Just plain awful.

  10. Happy that your dad is doing better. I’m so ready to see the forsythia bloom, the trees are finally starting to show some buds, so should be soon. My crocuses are blooming, so that’s a good sign. I’m heading to Disney next week for the Flower and Garden Show…can’t wait to see the flowers and feel the warmth! Yes, the Oscars were awful. Made it through the first hour. Chris Rock had some funny stuff in his intro monologue, but it went downhill from there!

  13. Good to hear that your dad is better hope all stays that way.
It’s snowing today:-( and alhtough there’re still some spring flowers out there (snowdrops, primroses, crosuses and a few others) I don’t think this will last.
I’m not really interested in the Oscars because it’s already past midnight here when they start and the only thing I’ve heard so far is that Leonardo DiCaprio finally has one.

  16. I loved the Oscars! I don’t care much about the awards — it’s all about the clothes, especially the women’s gowns, though some of those tuxes were beautiful, too. I taped it so I could start watching an hour or so later and could fast forward through the acceptance speeches and commercials.

  19. Glad to hear your dad is making progress… didn’t watch the Oscars…boring…watched repeats of Downton Abbey which I’ve seen several times but it wasn’t boring. Oh I want a forsythia like that in my yard…so pretty… and my favorite color!

  25. Wonderful news that your dad is good to go on his own! He’s very fortunate to have such great caregivers while he mended. I, too, had a difficult time sitting through the Oscars. I stuck with it to the end but wondered why!

  28. Thank you for the gift in the mail. I wasn’t smart enough to save your email and wanted to offer an air hug for the special prize!

  31. Glad to hear your dad is doing well on his own. Your forsythia is gorgeous. Mine has a few piddling blooms on it. It usually blooms a little about this time, then comes a spring freeze and that’s it for the forsythia.
