Mirror Mirror, On the Wall

Looking Glass is coming along great.  Only one more row, then the borders.  If I hadn't been called away on a pool play date, I know I would have finished the main body of the top yesterday.  But after all, it is summer, and there are fun things to be done outside.

We had such a splendid time with our friends.  My friend takes care of her grandchildren, four of them who range in age from 3 to 6.  I tell you, trying to keep track of five children in the pool is no laughing matter.  And it isn't like we had it all to ourselves either.  There were lots of moms and kids there.  Loads of splashing, laughing and all around fun.   My friend and I were in the water the whole time with the children, and we got a good work out.  

One of her little grandson's favorite game was hanging on my back, pretending I was American Pharaoh and having me "run" back and forth across the width of the pool.  Did I mention he was clinging to my back like a jockey?  I came home, sat down on the couch and immediately fell asleep.  We are planning to make this a weekly get together, so wish me luck getting used to the physical activity.

If I can keep my eyes open Friday, I will attempt to finish up Looking Glass.

  1. Had to go back to your instructions immediately to check out the how-to. the result appears complicated, the put-together much easier. Carrie really gave us quilters a break this time, he-he. Looks great in your choice of fabrics.

  4. Love Looking Glass as quilts with that diagonal stepping stone pattern really float my boat. As usual, you’ve flown thru this quilt construction in a flash. How do you do it?
    What fun to splash and play in the pool on a summer day but you’re so right – it is exhausting and you can never take your eyes off of the kids for a second. You’ll be tanned and muscular by the end of summer if you continue to be ridden by the Pharaoh!

  13. You’ll have the quilt finished in a flash! Your fabric choices are really great! You got a horse’s workout at the pool yesterday, didn’t you??? Keeping an eye on five kids+racing around the pool=exhausting fun!

  19. LOVE THAT!! I want to make a ton of red, white, and blue quilts and have them hanging from everywhere in my house near the 4th of July (or, rather, from Mem. Day til the end of July). BUT! That’s so weird because it’s hot then, in So. Cal, so they wouldn’t get much use. I have NO red, white or blue in my house (it would really clash, not that I care that much), AND I’m never tempted to make one because I’m afraid I’d get bored of the color scheme while sewing! Man I’m weird. But your quilt is VERY inspirational– I love it!
