It’s All About the Fabric

IMG_1866

I finally sorted out my Jacob's Ladder blocks.   I was having a ridiculous time trying to get them arranged the way I wanted them.  I outgrew the design wall and ended up laying out my last two rows on the floor under neath the design wall!  Works for me.  I was about to drive myself crazy getting a pleasing arrangement of colors.  Does that happen to you?  I was spending WAY too much time moving them around and around.  Do you know what I ended up doing?  I took them all down and started over again!  Now I am happy,

I promise you all this is the last picture you will see of these darn blocks on my design wall!  Next time, it will be an entirely new project.

One of my readers was asking me about the fabrics I am using in this project.  They are Civil War Reproduction fabrics, about a quarter of them are from a recent collection called Threads of Time designed by Julie Hendrickson for Windham.  I just used some of the pinks, greens and browns.  The rest, happily are from my stash.  Here are some close ups of the blocks so you can see the fabrics a bit better.  You may be able to click on the photos and enlarge them depending on your computer.

  Threads of time

This is the entire Threads of Time collection by Julie Hendricksen (of which I used the pinks, greens and browns).  Wouldn't a quilt with all these be beautiful?  Or just the reds, blues and browns….Maybe I need more?

  4. What a lovely quilt this already is and your arrangement of blocks and colors is quite pleasing to my eye. Well done!
Ya know, arranging the blocks nicely can take forever for scrap quilts and there comes a point for me when I just have to start sewing the blocks together. This was a revelation when once upon a time long ago I made one quilt with identical blocks.
    Hugs!

  16. What a wonderful collection of CW fabrics. Your Jacob’s Ladder is looking great, and I know you will be pleased with it when finished. More of this fabric collection? Yes, I say.

  19. Beautiful quilt! I try not to drive myself crazy with rearranging blocks but I don’t always succeed. Sometimes taking a photo and looking at it on your camera/phone helps.

  22. Your quilt is very pretty just as you have it! It gets to a point where you just have to start sewing or you’ll make yourself nuts! I, too, have used my phone’s camera to take a photo. Then turning it black & white sometimes help detect blocks that aren’t playing well with their neighbors!

Do you have one of those security viewer things, you know, that go in the front door? (sorry I don’t know the proper name for it!) They have a super wide angle.. I view my design wall with mine. Got it at Home Depot.
