Whew, I feel like a gerbil on an exercise wheel these days. My work schedule is still a bit demanding this week, but I am going to make a major effort on my days off to be mellow and unstressed.
One thing I did do yesterday morning, first thing after a busy weekend, is to tidy up my space. After a week of being in and out of the house constantly, and no time to address anything all weekend, things were a cluttered mess. I started with the main rooms of the house, moved on to the bedrooms and then tackled my sewing room. There is still more to do, but I feel as if I have gotten a grip on some of the clutter.
My sewing room was sort of like the junk drawer in the kitchen–miscellaneous items were beginning to pile up in a most alarming fashion. My cutting table was the worst of the jumble. I have a tendency to toss fabric remnants at the back of the table, thinking I will sort them out and file them away in the appropriate color coded bin in the garage. Eventually.
That is the problem, my storage bins are out in the garage. Down a flight of stairs, out the front door, across the porch, across the drive way and into the garage where the bins are stashed on shelving units. It was so convenient when I had my sewing studio, with its tall cupboards that held all my bins in one place. Nothing ever piled up because it was so easy to put things away. No more.
To help with this issue in my current, much smaller sewing room, I have designated a cute wooden box for these fabric scraps that are too big to throw away. Instead of letting them pile up and clutter my cutting table, I will place them in this wooden box on one of the shelves in my sewing room. When the box is full, I will take the box out to the garage and sort out the fabric scraps into their appropriate tubs.
I will let you know how this works!

Sounds like a good way to keep clutter under control.

Good idea for the usable scraps to go into the box and will travel to the garage later. Saves a lot of steps, too.
I’ve tackled the same problem but it’s been a slowly increasing one. Too much stuff. Since moving here, we’ve had to close two homes and are currently dealing with the third. This can happen when two only children marry each other. Glub, glub! I hate the thought of an estate sale but that is on the horizon. May I please be excused from that?!
Hugs!

My sewing room has become like the kitchen junk drawer too, and I have no excuse. I have plenty of room and plenty of storage but sometimes it is just too easy to let it pile up instead. Your post has prodded me into doing a little organizing today. Thanks!

Yeah…kitchen junk drawer syndrome here, too! It can’t be helped! Your bin for one trip to storage sounds do-able! And, the fact that it’s a ‘cute’ wooden box is a huge plus!

Having a plan is half the battle! Hope your clutter stays away. My cutting table is a pile magnet too 🙂

Great idea for keeping the scrap monster from getting out of control. I need to spend some time cleaning up my sewing room, too. Maybe this weekend…
