Oh My, Too Many Projects

IMG_1826

Oh dear.  I believe I may have too many things going on just at the moment.  What to work on?  I have been trying to work on them all, and make a block or two each day or so.  This can't keep up.  I need to clear off the design walls, except for one project, work on it until it is done, then move on to the next.

The problem is, I am excited about all four of these projects and can't decide which to finish first.   Bear with me while I try to figure out which one should have priority.

The little star blocks on the left are a year long project, so I should just make a couple whenever the mood strikes me and it will get done over time.

The three blocks just below the stars are the Single Wedding RIng block Fatquarter Shop recently did a video on.  That is really the project calling to me the loudest.  I love the dreamy soft Japanese fabrics and the blocks are fun to make.  I am thinking of doing a diagonal set, and my mind is just dancing with images of the blocks I want to make with these pretty pastel fabrics.

The quilt on the lower right is technically not my project, it is my daughter's, however the level of difficulty might be too much for her at this point, so I kind of took over.  I know she wants it done so she can give it to her friend and I feel obligated to work on it.  It takes forever to construct a block, as each larger block is comprised of four small blocks.  What looks like ten blocks up here is actually 40.  And I need to make a total of 25/100.

The quilt just above it, the Jacob's Ladder is the one I should probably focus on.  It is a current American Patchwork and Quilting magazine sew along, and it would be super nice to finish it soon and have it quilted so I can use it as the Spring/Summer quilt on my bed in the master bedroom.

So, if you were me, which of these projects would you focus on until it is finished?

And now that I look at this photo, I am thinking what I should do before I tackle one single thing is  make a new ironing board cover.  That thing is gross.

  1. You just described me too- so much going on, but where to go??!! Thanks for sharing your foibles with us. Well, look how far along you are on Jacobs Ladder- spring will be here before you know it ( I hope) and you will be so pleased with your bed quilt!

  4. Question, On your Daughter’s quilt blocks, are you making four small blocks within a block and then slicing each of small blocks diagonal to make eight triangles? Thus having 8 parts to complete two large blocks. Still a lot of work.

  7. I agree with Cathy – finish your Jacob’s Ladder and do a star or two every few days. Then you can work on the other two.

  10. I once read that accomplishing things is a matter of remembering what you really want and then working toward that goal.
I suggest working mostly on the Jacob’s ladder so it’s finished in time to have it finished soonest. Knowing you, that will be next week, Speedy Gonzales!
Perhaps choose to have play days or hours once a week or more then use that time to make the Single Wedding Ring, blocks for your daughter, and those little stars. They’ll be dessert!
    Most of all, have fun.
    Hugs!

  13. While the sensible choice may be the Jacob’s Ladder blocks I would work on the Single Wedding Rings since they are making your heart sing at the moment. Go with what makes you happiest where quilting is concerned. We delay gratification in so many areas of our lives, quilting should be our happy place! Have fun!

  19. I’d go with the stars and forget about the ironing board cover. Stars are one of my favourite blocks and I’m loving yours so would like to see more.

  22. Since there’s no deadline for the stars I would work on the three other projects. Perhaps you should rotate there to keep the fun level up? And if you let’s say 4 blocks for each the Jacob’s Ladder and your daughter’s quilt then you make one Single Wedding Ring block.

  25. My suggestion is to work on all of them at the same time. . . but then again, I’m crazy! ROFLOL
If you cut fabric pieces for a couple of blocks for each project you could work on them all at the same time and still have each one moving along.
Of course, I am a PROCESS person. . . whereas you have always impressed me by being a PROJECT person.
And that would explain why you have finished quilts and I just have more UFO’s!!
I’ll be watching no matter what project you choose to work on.

  28. LOL I am in the same boat with the other oar! 😮 Too many projects I love and not near enough time~ go for the Jacob’s Ladder with a small block for your DD’s quilt thrown in every so often. 😉 Have fun!

  31. Love your projects! I am really loving the Single Wedding ring blocks though so I would make up a few more and make a tablerunner for some instant gratification. Then finish up your daughters quilt, maybe with her helping on some of the components like making four patches or something. You can use the Jacobs Ladder and stars as Leader Ender projects while working on your main project so when you’re finished with one you’ll have a jump on your next one. Good idea anyway until another project crops up 🙂

  37. So many wonderful projects to choose from. No wonder you’re in a quandry. Since the SWR is consuming you at the moment, maybe just go for that one, with some stars twinkling in now and then. And maybe a weekly goal for a certain number of small blocks for your daughter’s project, just to move it along. Whatever you decide, have fun!

  40. I LOVE the single wedding ring but I think I would prioritize the one for your bed as you enjoy that one every day then. Maybe the blocks for your daughter you could do together? If you take over she won’t learn and you don’t work on your projects…if you do it together it will go faster and you both win, she gets a finish, improves her skills and you get time spent passing on your talents?! Good luck!

  43. That is a beautiful star quilt! My eyes instantly go to it. I say follow your heart and do the one you want to work on the most.

  46. I need a new ironing board cover too! Walmart has some great cotton decor fabric that I have my eye on!!
I am loving all four projects…I would pick the one nearest completion to finish first and then move on to the next. (Says me who has more than four projects on the go…hey, what do I know!!)
