Antique Stars Done, All 86 of Them

IMG_1481

All 86 Antique Stars are done.  They are randomly slapped on the design wall, and are in desperate need of rearranging.  I will play with them today and see what I can come up with.  And if I don't like the result, I will make  more stars!  As I look at the photo, I want more red ones.  The layout is supposed to be random, but it still bugs me when too many of the same color or intensity are in a row.

This is such a pretty block, actually called Ohio Star.  Such a classic.  If you need practice making hour glass blocks, this quilt is for you.  You make them a smidge oversized and trim them down, and the units will go together like a dream.  I am using a ruler by Monique Dillard of Open Gate Quilts for my trimming.  Perfect little 2 1/2 inch units.  The blocks will finish at 6 inches.

After I get the star blocks sorted out, I have a dark brown lattice that needs to be cut out and sewn on.  After that, the border and I'm done.  This is a fairly large quilt, a pattern by Bonnie Blue/Red Crinoline, which you can still buy on their website.  I used fabrics from my stash, no collection in particular.

My stills smells a bit like Eau de Skunk, but is getting better.  I bought a new Root candle in the scent "Crisp Autumn", which is quite lovely.

Hope you all had a terrific weekend!

  1. What a beautiful quilt that’s going to be! I agree … a few more red ones would be perfect. And I can’t do random either … which is why I have trouble doing totally random scrappy quilts. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Applause, applause! Love the Ohio Stars on point because they look like Evening Stars which are my favorite. Oddly, I don’t like Evening Stars on point because they no longer look like themselves.
I also love the scrappy look but it does mean you have to take time to arrange the blocks to your liking.
Have you thought about red sashing instead of making more red star blocks?
Hope the remaining Eu de Skunk fades completely and quickly.
    Hugs!

  13. Your blocks look beautiful! You probably just need to shift some around to separate like colors to get the look you want! I love Monique’s rulers–by far, the most accurate ones I’ve seen!
Poor Ozzieโ€ฆhe’s probably embarrassed by his offending odor!!
(Or, maybe not, since he IS Ozzie!!)

  19. You’re so speedy! I actually like the mix of the creamy ones with the reds, I think if you play with it you’ll like the way it looks.

  22. your stars are lovely. This is going to be a pretty quilt.
I was just thinking that we have not heard any news about Grandpa lately. Has he settled in a little better. Change is so hard for them.

  25. I was thinking of Grandpa just recently. Maybe it is because my Mother will be 90 years old on Oct 1st and I asked for cards from friends (hoping for 90+ cards) and I remember sending Grandpa a card a few years ago. As usual, love what you are showing today!! Beautiful!
