And as soon as my house was all cleaned and the fall decorations put out, Ozzie went outside and tried to make friends with a skunk. That didn't work out so well. Now, anyone who comes into the house is greeted by, well, the smell of skunk. Which predominates over anything else one might notice. So much for my fall decor.
We've washed him in Dawn, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, tomato juice, all the usual treatments. I caved in and took him to a new dog groomer for a bath, which actually was fairly successful. Finally I believe I have found someone who can handle him. She looks and talks exactly like Dolly Parton (including the big blond wig), which was a huge distraction to him while she was bathing him and clipping his nails. "Why, did that bad ol' Mr. Skunk spray you Mr. Ozzie? Did you tell him Auntie Vonna wouldn't like that one bit? Yes you did, didn't you?" He was so amazed by her he was immobilized long enough for her to work her magic.
I got out my Antique Stars blocks and started working on them again. I have 48 out of 86 blocks done. As I finish them (I am making three at a time), I just slap them up on the design wall. I can rearrange them when all are finished. Eventually there will be a dark brown lattice separating the blocks. It is a good sized quilt, a pattern by Bonnie Blue/Red Crinoline. Fabrics all from my stash.
Have a great weekend sewing everyone. I hope to have a productive one!

Poor Ozzie, and poor you having to deal with it. Love those star blocks; have a fun weekend working on more of them.

Ewwwwwww! Poor Ozzie! Cheers for Vonna and the effective magic she worked. Skunks do stink to high heaven, don’t they? What has Miss E thought of this unpleasant situation?
I know quilt blocks often have more than one name, but the name I learned for your antique block pattern is Ohio Star. Love your stash fabrics and colors and the fact that your quilt will be one of a kind on this planet! How large are the blocks?
Hugs!

I love your description of how mesmerized Ozzie was by Vonna. Wonderful! And great that her charms and a bath helped with the horrible smell. I love your Antique Stars!

Poor Ozzie. . . .but Yeah! for Miss Vonna and getting a good amount of the smell gone.
I guess you will be burning quite a number of candles to neutralize the house. . .hope that goes as well as the bath with Ozzie.
You hadn’t mentioned the star quilt in a while so I wasn’t sure if you were still working on it. Your design wall looks wonderful. . . can’t wait to see the completed quilt top.

Any blog entry featuring Ozzie is a good one! So happy to hear ‘Auntie Vonna’ was able to tame his Eau’ de Skunk!
I also subscribe to making two or three blocks at a time–it seems to make them go quicker!! Have a great week-end sewing!

This really works! The de-skunking recipe is simple: One quart of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap.

I love the way you tell Ozzie stories! There is a “someday I’m going to wring his neck” undertone to all your stories about this scamp!

Oh dear, Skunked! Well I have certainly been there. That dawn, baking soda, and peroxide combo worked well for me. (Especially at 3am… don’t ask! LOL)
And that quilt!!! I just love it! Ohio Stars on point. Beautiful as usual! Thanks for the inspiration. Don’t forget about the Alden Lane Quilt Show this weekend!

My late Daisy was skunked eight times one year, so I learned to keep this handy. I don’t see the powdered version I used, but this is the same product. It’s an enzyme eater and will absolutely remove the smell almost immediately from the dog and everything he touches. The secret is to just leave it on and let it dry naturally. Daisy stayed in the garage until she was dry. Then I sprayed the towels I used to hold her, spread them out in the garage until they dried, and then threw them in the washer with no detergent. Hope this helps for the future if it happens again.

Oh my goodness…I could actually hear Dolly’s voice as I read your typed words. Then visions from Steel Magnolias came to mind. Poor Ozzie!
