Lucy Is a Very Big Girl

IMG_1439

Lucy, Lucy, Lucy.  I had no idea you were going to be so large.  I guess I have been working with such small projects lately, your size kind of surprised me.  Don't worry though, we are going to get along fine.  If I can get you put together.  Your bottom rows are going to be on the floor at this rate, since you don't fit on my design wall!

Making the blocks for this project has been quite soothing.  I put an audiobook in my iPod and have been stitching happily away this week.  The 25 patch blocks go together with easy strip piecing.  If you press according to Carrie's directions, all the seams abut perfectly and you don't have to pin.  The snowball blocks practically make themselves in just a couple of hours.

All the time i have been sewing, it keeps crossing my mind that this is the best scrap buster pattern I have seen in ages.  Just imagine what this would look like in multi colors.  I need to revisit my scrap bins and cut some 1 3/4 inch strips with making another of these quilts in mind.

My goal this weekend is to sew the blocks together, so maybe this big girl will be finished by Monday!

  1. Lucy is looking wonderful!
I doubt mine will be finished for this Halloween though because I only started it and just realized I need 66 of those blocks….then I need to make the snowball blocks. I’ll be ready for next year though!
    Good luck with finishing…

  4. Applause, applause!! Way to go in getting so many of these two blocks made so quickly. Will Lucy have any borders?
I love the look of this quilt and can imagine it in Christmas colors, or any other combination of lots of colors or only a few colors. Well done!
    Hugs!

  7. Lucy’s a good looking gal! I agree with Audrey that she’d make a good retreat quilt…do-able with so much going on around all the time!

  10. Lucy is looking mighty, mighty fine, to be sure. And I agree with you that it would look fantastic in scraps. I’m tucking that idea away for future reference. 😉

  13. Looks great! I saw the original on Carrie Nelson’s blog, love the spider webs quilted in the white blocks. Are you planning something similar?
