I was very lucky to snag a beautiful kit of cream, orange and black fabric from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. recently.  The kits were in very limited supply and appear to have sold out, but don't despair, you can still put together these fabrics on your own, with a little effort.  If you don't have the energy for that, keep checking the Miss Rosie website and see if she puts out any more kits.

If you go to Quiltshops.com (a fabric search engine) and look for orange fabrics from The Boo Crew (by Sweetwater)  and Honeysweet (by Fig Tree), plus black and gray fabrics from Little Black Dress II, plus fill in with some Essential Dots and fabrics from your stash you can absolutely put together the required yardage to make the beautiful quilt pattern Lucy, designed by Carrie Nelson.  You only need 8 orange fat quarters and 10 black/gray fatquarters.  (Of course more is better).  The background is a subtle polka dot from Minick and Simpson's Midwinter Reds collection.  It is all still available with a bit of looking.    You can get the pattern in a pdf version from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. and be stitching away in no time.  Come on, you know you want a Halloween quilt.  And if you don't (seriously?), just imagine how amazing this quilt would look in assorted multicolored scraps from your stash.

The quilt is made by strip piecing and goes together super fast.  I got my kit on Wednesday and got the fabric cut out and strips sewn together

and my strip sets all cut into sections

and about a dozen of the 61 checkerboard blocks sewn in one day!

I put a new book on my iPod, and spent a delightful day puttering all on my own in the sewing room.  Heaven!  I plan on repeating the experience today.

  1. I missed out on that one and I was bummed. I did see a picture on Joanne Figueroa’s IG feed of a quilt she was working on that looked great too so I am thinking I’ll try to make that one.

  4. That quilt is so dang cute. I saw it on Thelma’s blog and Carries’s as well. You are a lucky girl. I am so jealous,of your sewing time. We are moving and it is utter chaos around here getting the house ready to sell. it goes on the market next week so hopefully I will get some sewing time back (if I can control the mess factor of course). have a great weekend.

  7. You sure do work quickly. Two days in your sewing room. Sounds blissful. You accomplished a lot on day one. Looking forward to seeing the beautiful results of day two.

  10. Dang girl! You’re fast… in the best possible way, of course. lol
Background – if you can’t find the polka dot from Midwinter Reds, my second choice was the Pindot in Ice Cream from American Jane. It’s a Basic fabric and it’s one of my absolute favorite fabrics – it goes with everything from Denyse Schmidt to Reproduction. It’s available at http://www.americanjane.com/fabric
Now stop reading and go finish your quilt! Have a terrific weekend!

  25. I love Carrie’s quilt and the kit! So fun that you got one. I don’t know how to contact you privately about a quilt that you finished in 2012. I’m wondering if you would sell a pattern that is no longer in print. Please contact me at tchamberlain1atbresnandotnet
    Thanks!

  31. I ordered Lucy the day I saw the quilt on Thelma’s blog but didn’t order the kit. After seeing your close-ups, I “need” to find some of the fabric. Those are great choices of fabric. Thanks for suggesting Quiltshops.com. I’m going to a quilt show in my area in a couple weeks so-o-o-o now do I looks for fabric there or go ahead and order the ones I have found…..decisions, decisions!!
