My Schizophrenic Sewing World

Idaho Lily is coming right along.  The applique is all done, the blocks connected, the inner border on, and the sawtooth border started.  This little table topper is going to go great with my decor, especially during the upcoming holidays.  I tell you, it made me VERY nervous to cut away the backing fabric behind those appliqued leaves.  Ack.  I think I may have been a bit over zealous with the glue, so that freezer paper did not want to let go nicely.  However, I didn't rip anything crucial, the blocks didn't fall apart, so I guess I am good.  If you are a beginner to machine applique, this project leads you in very gently.

I am really enjoying this little project and am excited to make more of the Simple What Not's projects offered through Fatquartershop.com.  Did I tell you I joined not just this year's club, but the one that starts in 2015 too?  Love Kim Diehl's patterns and fabrics and must make lots of them!

But I have to say, this project is making my heart beat faster right now:

Oh my stars and whiskers, how cute is that?  Four Flowering Snowball blocks done in pink Kaffe Fasset fabrics.  It doesn't go with my decor in.the.slightest.  But, let me tell you, this is a FUN sewing project.  Working with the templates for cutting was a breeze, and sewing the units has had no issues at all.  Each block is perfect.  I love this block.

I am so excited for both these projects, diverse as they are, that I keep hopping back and forth between the two of them.  I work on Idaho Lily's sawtooth borders for a bit, then pick up some Flowering Snowball pieces and think "I'll just make a couple of sections".  An hour later, I guiltily think, "Oh, I should get back to Idaho Lily, and get that done".

I am so torn….

  4. Dearie me! It’s a wonder you’re not dizzy from spinning from Idaho Lily to Flowering Snowballs! Both are simply charming and applause for you for choosing perfect fabrics and sewing so precisely!
If I were to buy just one curved piecing template, which would you recommend?
I’m a bit in the plodding mode as I need to finish a few things up … sigh!
    Hugs!

  10. Your flowering snowball block makes me think of tropical beaches and sunsets – it will make a great summer quilt.

  16. Idaho Lily is lovely. But I can see why your heart is skipping a beat over your Flowering Snowball in September. It’s gorgeous!

  19. I just love the Idaho Lily and am tempted to give it a try. I’ve never done machine applique, but perhaps I can just do freezer paper needle turn applique instead (unless I can get a class in the very near future – ha!).
