For those of you who couldn't see my post from yesterday or leave comments, it was due to a major Typepad issue. Again. They were down all day long. Ever since they were hacked last month it has been one thing after another. I had better type this and get it posted before it goes down again.
As you see, I have been doing a bit of sewing. The little pear blocks go together pretty quickly once the units are all assembled. There are four units that make up each block. A leaf, a stem, a pear top and a pear bottom. I have the day pretty free today so I should finish up all the blocks. The lattice comes next and is such that the pear blocks are set in a staggered pattern.
The fabric collection I am using, Mirabelle, is more pastel than I ussually like. This is going to be a very understated little quilt.
Yesterday I went a bit nuts and ordered a ton of charm packs–15 different ones! I have some cool mini quilts in mind, which I will share with you tomorrow. Have any of you seen any blog posts or reports of Quilt Market? There are so many wonderful new collections and patterns coming out. I did spend some time yesterday watching a YouTube video of Moda's Schoolhouse, which was very fun. Various designers show samples of some of their current collections and projects, which is so interesting. Edyta from Laundry Basket Quilts just blew me away. Click on the link and check it out for yourself!
These are examples of Edyta's style (photos I pulled off the internet). She is known for combining print fabrics and batiks in the same quilt, usually with some applique thrown in as well, which these examples do not have.
I want to be her when I grow up.
The quilt on the left is a Primitive Gatherings pattern called Pinwheel Garden. It is only 22" x 28". The pattern below is Starry Night by Laundry Basket Quilts.

I did try to comment yesterday to no avail. ANYWAY, yes I agree with you little quilts are a lot of fun and useful as well. I make a lot of Jo Morton little ones and it is fun to switch them out around the house. Edyta is a rock star in my opinion. I would like to make so any of her quilts. have a nice day!

Those pears are so darling! There is nothing cuter than a mini quilt. The quilts that you posted…the pinwheel quilt is called Pinwheel Garden and it is a Primitive Gatherings design by Lisa Bongean. I am sure you would want to give proper attribution. 🙂

I took a workshop from Edyta last fall and it was amazing. She’s a very good teacher/designer, she has a lot of patience and is very willing to help. Love her designs and can’t wait for her new book to come out.

I just love Edyta’s designs and the mix of prints and solids. Have you seen her Snowbird line? I love the blues and creams.

Perfect pears indeed! I got my 4 PDF pack almost as soon as I saw them posted, but I have only had time to make one of the blossom blocks so far. *sigh*

Edyta blows me away too! Her color combinations really make her quilts sparkle. I felt Mirabelle was too pastel also but when you pull out the mint and pale yellow the other colors really shine, that’s what I did for my pears. Can’t wait to see what you’re doing with your charm packs. Do you usually just use one pack per project or several? It’s always hard for me to figure out how many to buy when I don’t have a specific project in mind.

Love the pears and I really like the fabrics you are using.
Thanks for sharing the link to Moda’s Schoolhouse. I have read a few posts from Quilt Market and saw quite a few pictures on Instagram but haven’t watch any videos…yet.

I have been watching all the videos of Market. I have the same favorites as you… Edyta, Joanna and Carrie. I am really in the mood for some batik infused with rich dark colors like Edyta does so well!

Edyta is a fantastic guild speaker and teacher too – we had her a few years ago and her lecture was great and the classes went off really well. Her projects are just amazing!

I’m late to this party but did get to comment yesterday.
Cheers for your progress on your little pears! Looking good!
Oh, I LOVE the Pinwheel Garden quilt in every way. How delicious! I’ve never heard of Edyta and her designs but I won’t forget her.
I’ll be headed to watch the demos on the link you kindly provided. Thanks!
Hugs!

What background are you using for the pear project? Lots of Fig Tree projects have a cream background but the latest has that nice soft whitish color.

Love the pics of the quilts you posted. Yes, I have been watching all those Quilt Market Videos, plus the Moda Schoolhouse. Laundry Basket Quilts blew me away too, she is so talented. I’ve added all her new stuff to my Fat Quarter Wish List…(what a long list). I have about 15 charm packets too but waiting for the perfect project to use them on…it’s so hard to decide what to do first. You pears are too adorable, I could eat them all up (if they weren’t fabric)…LOL
