All is NOT Lost!

Thank you Thank you Thank you

I love the blogging community.  Truly, I thought I had wasted all my beautiful Denyse Schmidt fabric and a lot of time by not trimming correctly while making my Kaleidoscope blocks.  So many of you took the time to really look at the mess my blocks were and give me some excellent suggestions.

Several of you pointed out that the corner triangles were way too big.  Of course they were!  Duh, why didn't I see that?  As you see in the re-made blocks in the photo above, the corner triangles need to fit on the pie wedge shapes with only a quarter inch seam allowance left over.   Mine was way off.

The blocks are totally salvageable, and a number of kind people gave me ideas on what I could do to either re-make the blocks, or use what I had made in a different (non-Kaleidoscope arrangement).

I have decided to take the over large corner triangles off, trim the blocks down to a final 5 1/2 inch size and reattach the proper size corner triangles.  A lot of unsewing and trimming for me, but I am determined to see this through!  The overall size of the quilt will be smaller, but hey, I can make more blocks and will still have the effect that I desire with the secondary Kaleidoscope circular design.

You just can't know how much I appreciate the community of quilters who took the time to give me the advice that allows me to salvage and complete this project!

  10. Thank you for sharing your problems with this block. We all make mistakes or fail to see the problem and it is helpful for us to see that others experience the same things. I have a ruler, fabric and all the instructions I can print, ready to make a Kaleidoscope quilt, just hesitate to begin cutting!
