Victory Star Center Blocks Done

001

My project du jour is Victory Stars, a pattern and kit designed by Paula Barnes for Red Crinoline Quilts.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of making the center blocks, done in shades of navy and a golden tan background color.  The blocks each have a center square in a contrasting color, which I think adds some fun and zip to the equation.  I substituted some fabrics from my stash for the kit's center stars, which were a bit more conservative in color.

The quilt has an outer border that features small Sawtooth star blocks, which will also have these brighter center squares.  This quilt is a bit darker than any I have made lately, but I think it will look very nice draped over my white sofa or out on the golden tan loveseat on the front porch.  I have dark red front doors, which would complement this quilt, so the porch might be the perfect spot for it.

For now, I am enjoying the process of sewing my blocks together with the lattices and corner stones and setting triangles.  Doesn't it look different with the blocks spread out and with the lattices separating the blocks?  I am loving the turkey red setting triangles.

  1. This will be a nice addition to your quilt collections. Wonderful. Make sure you post a picture of this quilt in it’s final resting place.

  4. I love this block, may have to buy the pattern! I see several ways to set them, with and without lattice, straight and on point. You used a great color combination, too, especially for your home.

  7. Nicely done. I’m having a hard time deciding which version I like better – the one with sashing or the one without! The one without sashing has some intriguing possibilities…

  16. Lovely!! I applaud your decision to substitute brighter center squares to your blocks as I really like the look and now your quilt is one of a kind (that floats my boat about my own quilts!).
The paler sashing color does tame the overall look of the quilt from the more intense colors in the first photo. Interesting!
Also interesting to me is how much the overall look of a quilt changes with different color setting triangles.
    Enjoy!
    Hugs!

  19. This is looking lovely Nicole – and I think you are right to put some cheerful sunny colours in the centres as they contrast really nicely with the more muted background colours without looking too bright. Looking wonderful!
