Several of my friends have been experimenting with brighter color palettes lately with great success. I have to admit, I do enjoy the colorful quilts they have been coming out with. It is the case however that I still have a strong affinity for Civil War Reproduction fabrics: I love the way they honor our past and maybe more importantly, how they fit so well into my more traditional decorating style. Bright and colorful doesn't necessarily have to equate with contemporary, I have decided upon some reflection.
Examine the picture above. It is Kenneshaw Mountain, a pattern by Red Crinoline (Bonnie Blue), and is one of their remakes in a fabric collection called Hampton Ridge, designed by Paula Barnes for Marcus Brothers. Look at that cheddar yellow, the turkey red, and that really awesome shade of not-at-all-boring blue. All told, that comes together to form a pretty bold look and I really like it. Really really like it.
I am pretty sure that a quilt with these brighter fabrics is in my line up!
Gloria, Gwenette, I am still waiting to hear from you with your mailing addresses. You were both winners of my 1500th blog post. I'd love to send a prize your way!

Wow! Look at all of those flying geese and HSTs! More power to all who want to make this quilt and plow right into the process. It is a wonderful quilt!
I love so many colors that the quilts I have planned don’t fall into any particular decorating or seasonal style. I may be nuts to have such wildly differently colored quilts, but for now that floats my boat.
Nicole, your many quilts do seem to play nicely together. Well done!!
Hugs!

I am with you about repro fabrics. It is by far my favorite. If you should do this quilt, you might want to look at Bloc Lock rulers. they are really pricey but there are a whole lot of flying geese in this one. it is absolutely beautiful. have a great day.

Do you have your pattern and/or fabrics ready now? I love the reproduction quilts you make. I toggle between the brights like Bonnie & Camille and Civil War also – changes up my mood for the positive either way!

I am also a big fan of Civil War and of course French General fabric. I have a hard time with some of the brighter fabrics that are out now.

Civil War Reproduction fabrics are my favorite. I like to make new quilts with an old feel. I am doing Paula Barnes’ BOM Hampton Ridge and the fabrics are wonderful!

I recently finished the Hampton Ridge quilt – it was a BOM that I purchased as a kit. With the exception of the border fabric, I have enough fabric left over from the kit to make this one – someone really miscalculated on the fabric requirements on that BOM. Halfway through piecing the flying geese now – maybe we’ll have to see if we can keep pace with each other!

Traditional, but in the brighter side. I love it! It makes you feel good to try to go out of your box a little doesn’t it? It’s not easy!
