I am excited about another sew along that a number of big names in the quilting world are participating in. It is a sew along inspired by a gorgeous quilt made by Lissa Alexander (Moda Lissa) that will appear in the upcoming issue of American Patchwork and Quilting. I don't have permission to use Lissa's picture of her quilt, but check out her blog so you can see it. Go ahead. I'll wait.
Isn't that amazing? And look at the names of the folks who are featured in the sew along! Camille Roskelley, Carrie Nelson, Anne Sutton, Lisa Bongean, Sherri McConnell, Kimberley Jolly, Amy Ellis, and Jane Davidson. I can't wait to see what these ladies come up with for their take on this beautiful Burgoyne Surrounded quilt with super scrappy backgrounds.
Since December is on its way, I am in the mood for something red and green, and found this wonderful package of fat quarters in my dresser drawer. They have been waiting for years to be in a project. I think this is a great start for a Christmas version of the quilt! My thought is to do the chain in reds and the circular design in each block in green. Evidently you need a boat load of scrappy backgrounds for this quilt, to achieve the cool effect in the pattern. Would you believe 7 yards? I still need way more fabrics, and have some on order that should come this week. When I get it all together I will post a photo. Keep your fingers crossed that all my fabrics play well together!

Good Morning Nicole,
I am going to do this one as well. I pull out of my stash and am waiting for my APQ magazine to arrive. I love Lisa’s quilt. Your Christmas idea is a great one. This will be a fun one. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. have a nice weekend.

I should do it. I have a ton of low volume background type fabrics. I wonder if the magazine is available to purchase yet?

What a happy quilt and am sure your red/green version will be joyous!
You know I love scrappy quilts and diagonal stepping stone settings, so may have to give this one a try. I’d work from one of my sweetly beribboned bundles of fabrics that have been waiting for a pattern for ages and I, too, have lots of neutrals for backgrounds. Hummmmmm… the ideas come!
Thanks for sharing this quilt-along with us!
Hugs!

Oh, I love this quilt. And the challenge of finding all those fabrics. The pattern doesn’t look to complicated, no half-square triangles anywhere. Looking forward to seeing what other fabrics you come up with. So far, so good.

Oh, I think it’s going to be beautiful. I love the colors. Did you ever get the wax stain out of the quilt? I have a quilt that Maggie chewed a rather nice chunk out of when she was a puppy. It couldn’t be repaired so I just keep in folded so you can’t see the damage and call it life.

Love your fabric pull! I am so often drawn to red and green fabrics, not just for Christmas, I’ve had to consciously try and diversify. Did you really NEED to buy more fabrics to make the background more scrappy? Or are you like me and make any excuse to buy more fabric? Haha.
