Thanks so much for all your sweet good wishes after my unfortunate car accident. Much to be thankful for–Eva or Grandpa weren't with me, I wasn't badly injured, my car is fixable, and the young man who hit me has perhaps learned a lesson. Repairs are underway, I get a new car seat for my grand daughter and chiropractic visits for myself for the foreseeable future.
On to a more interesting subject: Mini Charm Packs
Have any of you used them? They are precut 2 1/2 inch squares, one of the most common and useful sizes there is. Such fun when a new collection comes out, you think you love a new group, but you can't afford or aren't sure you want to spring for the $140 full bundle or even a $40 layer cake. At around $5 each, these mini charm packs are so affordable. So, say you buy a couple of these mini charm packs–what next?
Can any of you who have purchased this particular type of precut share with us what projects you might have made with them?
I know Moda Bake Shop has frequent suggestions on projects that use these little gems, have any of you made up anything? What particular patterns have you used and how did you like the results?
Now that we are entering the holiday gift giving season, it occurs to me that they might be terrific for making little zippy bags, coasters or table toppers. Check out the idea below for a fabulous way to use these mini charms.
This adorable mitten was made by Jodi at Pleasant Home. The pattern "Quilted Christmas Mitten" is available on her website. Isn't that adorable? It is made from these mini charm packs Moda calls Candy. You could whip a few of these out and stuff them with holiday goodies and present them to your co-workers or as hostess gifts. It could be the focus point of a holiday basket along with home made jam or candles. I love it!

Cute mitten and great idea for a quick gift. Glad things are moving along and hope you don’t suffer after effects…

I’ve gotten all of Carrie’s “Little Bites” patterns. They use the Candy packs.

Interesting! I had no idea that these tiny squares were available as pre-cuts and have been standing at my cutting table cutting many of my fabrics (blues) into that size. Will probably continue that endeavor.
If you’d like to, you can post the tiny Halloween quilt photo I sent you as something similar to it could be made from 2.5″ squares. Those HSTs were cut at 3.25″ so I could trim them to 2.5″.
Thank you, JoAnne, for the mention of the “Little Bites” patterns!
Cheers that all is going as well as possible after that unwelcome and scary car accident!
Hugs!

Nicole, thanks for blogging.
I find it cheery and interesting.
I look forward to it every day.
Sorry that you and the car got smacked. Bummer.
I know it is difficult supervising grandpa’s care, but he is fortunate to have you.
I chuckle when some suggested you bring him to your house.
We have had mama for three years and she is on the decline. Hospice has become a part of our lives.
Keep blogging and i’ii keep ready.
Get better soon.

I’ve used them to make pot holders, very handy and quick.

I made 2 doll quilts with them and I loved them! However, that’s all I’ve done with them…they’re starting to stack up around here! ;p
Nicole, body massages work wonders on sore muscles. If the insurance won’t pay do it yourself. It really, really helps. ;p

Oh, honestly I collect them because they are cute, but it’s hard not to think that they are twice the price per square inch as charm packs, … which are of course twice the price per square inch as layer cakes … etc… I know that Sherri from A Quilting Life blog is going to do a series on these “candy” packs and share ideas over there. She’s calling it “Simply Small Sewing”. She will be blogging more about it this weekend according to her blog post this week.

I’m guilty of ‘collecting’ them. Now i need to use them. 🙂

Oh, how timely. After having long admired this form of “candy” I just bought my first two packs today. No idea what I’ll do with them, but i just had to have something from the collection. Will watch for ideas. Thanks for posing the question.

Several ladies at our local retreat made Mondo Bags using 2 1/2″ squares. The bags are roomy totes & I definitely plan to make one myself! These mini charm packs would be great to use!

So glad to hear that things are ok after that accident yesterday. Things can happen so quickly. What a blessing that baby and grandpa were not with you. The young and feeble feel the effects of this kind of thing so much more.
I have used these little fabric gems in a schnibbles pattern a while back and I have two little bundles of indigo crossing by Minick and Simpson standing by…they aren’t sure what they want to be, when they grow up, so I am giving them a little time to figure it out.
