I am so excited about a new project I am beginning, perfect for late summer/early fall. I can't tell you all about it just yet, as I hope to be sewing along with a couple of friends, and haven't conferred with them as to when we are going to officially start sharing the details. This is an amazing stash buster project, as well as a fun opportunity to do some fabric swapping with friends who are working on the same quilt. A few months ago, my friends and I cut a gazillion strips and mailed a share to the others. We all love scrappy and swapping strips is a great way to get more variety in your quilt tops.
Can't wait to tell you more about it! For now, just appreciate these gorgeous blacks, browns and golds! Bet you can't guess what I am going to do with all those strip sets, but for sure it is going to be fun. The quilt isn't going to be all browns and blacks–there are going to be some brilliant reds and yellows in the mix too.
I had to share another photo of the hung-too-high painting, so you can see that it isn't as bad as it looked in yesterday's post. There is actually another ten feet of ceiling above the top of the painting! So it is high, but not THAT high. I got so many sympathetic comments from people who all said their husbands couldn't hang a picture at the right height if their lives depended on it. lol Poor guys, I have a feeling no matter where they hung a picture, we gals would have a better idea of where it should go.
I am still playing with my mantel decor and added in some orange books for color and interest. Have a great weekend everyone.

It does look a lot better in this photo. I do love the warm creamy color of your walls.

Love the warm, delicious colors in your strip sets and the 16 Patch blocks peeking from the background! I look forward to seeing what this becomes.
Although the lovely picture looks a bit better when the whole wall is in the photo, it seems to me that something horizontal hung under it or tall lamps or other accessories on the mantel will make it feel better connected.
How does Ozzie like his new digs? Has he sailed thru the window in the wall between the leather chair and the fireplace?!
Hugs!

That little extra room there gives you a chance to put some taller do-dads without obstructing the picture! 🙂

Nicole have you thought about finding a large clock to place on your mantle? I did a copy cat on my mantle from this post

Whoah! Those are some high ceilings…pic still looks great. I think they did a good job, gotta give the men some kudos once in a while. I was just thinking of making a log cabin quilt out of black, orange, and neutral fabrics for Halloween. Will be interesting to see what you make out of all those strips..looking forward to seeing what the mystery quilt will become. Glad your back to posting, I missed your daily postings.

Nicole,
I think it looks great! The height of the candle and the birds adds balance. You will have fun playing with it as the seasons change.
Is it a Scrappy Round the World quilt? Tell us soon so I can purchase some orange/ black/ brown before all the fall fabrics are sold!

Your new strip sets are anticipating Fall, and by this point who isn’t. Heat go away. Looking forward to what you do with these. Your new abode looks mighty nice. I myself hang most of our stuff but when the labor was hubby’s, I marked the spot with a pencil. I have a penchant for wanting everything lower than hubby did – the better to see it of course!!

Hmmm, I think I know who you are sewing along with, but will keep it to myself so as not to ruin the surprise. How fun! Your painting/ceiling issue looks fine to me. Bless your husband’s heart for hanging it up in the first place.

The books are a nice addition Nicole. And honestly, I didn’t think picture was too terribly high in your previous post. I guess because the ceilings are so high?
Your living room looks so inviting!

That teaser for your mystery quilt is absolutely scrumptious. Can’t wait to see what it turns into.
I’m probably in the minority, but I agree with you that the picture is hung too high. However, in the interests of peace and consideration, it probably needs to stay where it is. You will become accustomed to it. And it does give you lots of space to show off those crows, books, flowers …
