This pattern is Victory Star, one put out by Paula Barnes of Red Crinoline Quilts (formerly Bonnie Blue Quilts). I have been thinking about Paula lately, as she recently lost her husband under quite tragic circumstances. Paula is a lovely lady, and I had the privilege of taking a class with her once, and Victory Star was a kit that came along with the price of the class. It was very obvious how important her husband and family were to her, and my heart goes out to her in this time of grief.
Since Paula was on my mind, I pulled out my class project box, and the one completed block I had managed to do. This is one kit I have decided not to meddle with, and will be using as is. I am not sure what each of the fabrics in the kit are but I believe the majority of them may be Paula Barnes designs for Marcus Brothers.
Once I pulled out the kit and saw that I had already done all the cutting, I sat down and stitched up a few blocks. It seemed like an appropriate project to work on over Memorial Weekend.
Hope you all had a nice weekend.

So pretty. What a nice thing to do right now. It is such a loss for her and her family. It had to be such a shock and so hard to deal with. It will be a beautiful quilt!

What a beautiful quilt! I can imagine your happy surprise of finding all the fabrics in the kit were already cut and ready for sewing. How nice to leave yourself such a delightful treasure to find! You’re well on your way to another wonderful quilt!
My sympathies to Paula and her family.
Hugs!

This is really pretty, and I’ve said prayers for Paula back a couple weeks ago when I heard the news. It was a great project to work on.

Very sad for the family to lose their dad/husband so suddenly! Shocking.
It’s great that you had all the cutting done and could just sit right down and sew. This is a beautiful quilt.

That’s gong to be a lovely quilt. I’m impressed that you have projects tucked away you’ve forgotten you’ve cut out! I flit between projects too, but I haven’t yet forgotten about one and how far I was in to it. I think that’s a sign of impressive productivity, years of experience and an extensive collection of fabric!

I find that when I am sewing a quilt for someone it gives me a lot of time to think of and pray for them. This was a great way to remember a good teacher/person in her very hard time. Good for you.

I was so shocked when I heard about Paula’s husband. I had been chatting with her at the local quilt show and she encouraged me to sign up for a class she is to give at a local quilt shop. That weekend I drove down to signed up for the class and then on Monday I heard about her husband. For some reason it has stuck with me for weeks. I keep thinking about her and praying for her strength. I see I’m not the only one.
I have a guild friend that made that quilt and I loved it. I hope you are enjoying the process.

I was so sorry when I heard Paula lost her husband. Life has such a way of smacking us in the face when we are not expecting it. I will be taking a class with her in mid-June. I hope she finds some distraction in her work. She is a kind and talented woman.

Very nice quilt! Cutting is my least favorite part of the process…can’t wait to see the finished quilt.
