Drowning in Strips

002

I feel as if I am drowning in strips for my pineapple blocks!  I did get the lights all cut out and organized into labeled baggies over the weekend.  After cutting for hours, I still do not have enough French General reds.  I ordered 13 more fat quarters and that is just going to have to be enough.  If not, I will dig around and pull non French General reds and add them into the mix.  So, for now, I am on hold until the fabric reinforcements arrive.

It was a great feeling to be able to really dig into my stash of lights and use up many many bits and pieces that were leftover from other projects.  I am so glad I hung onto all these smallish pieces as they did come into play very handily.  My lights come from all sorts of fabric collections, not just French General, so maybe I should lighten up on the self imposed rule that all my reds be FG.

Today I will be working on my Long Road Home blocks, which you can see in the upper left of the photo, next to my sewing lamp base.  It is a big old mess in the sewing studio right now, with three different projects being worked on at once, plus my student's two projects.  Must. Create. Some. Order.

  1. Well done on getting the lights cut to size and organized! You know I applaud your use of stash fabrics so your Pineapple quilt will be the only one like it in the whole wide world!
Sigh! Your glorious large sewing studio can well accommodate 3 projects on the go at once. My itty bitty sewing room endures my many on-going projects with far less …um …. er… grace? organization? mess?!! 🙂 Enjoy having enough room to make several projects at once and still twirl around!!
    Hugs!

  3. You look pretty organized to me 🙂 Am really loving those reds! You are so tempting me to follow along with you. How many blocks are you planning on doing? Can’t wait to see more…you can do it 🙂

  7. I love your red & white Pineapple block in your last post! And seeing all the strips just makes me drool … I love the chopping-up-fabric bit of quilting. I have never made a Pineapple block and looking at it I’m not sure how to – I think I will go and look it up!

  9. This will be a fabulous quilt when it’s all done. I find quilts that add “outside” fabric tend to sparkle a bit more, I’m sure you have some other reds in the same tone, sprinkle them throughout the top and it will shine! I shall watch for block updates, this will be a journey!

  11. Wow, you are such an inspiration Nicole!!! You pineapple block will be beautiful. I’m hesitating to go through the stash since the house is up for sale and I don’t think I’m willing to make that mess right now but I am on the lookout for more French General. I plan on making this quilt!

  13. Cutting scrappy takes sooo much time. I spent the weekend cutting pieces for Easy Street, and still need a lot more!

  15. Love your reds. I’m guess I’m different: Work in progress looks not like a mess to me. It looks lovely. –At the very least, I guess we could label it a ‘lovely mess.’ 🙂

  17. I really love the Pineapple block in the FG fabrics. That is going to make one gorgeous quilt. For myself, I have never done a pineapple block but am thinking it is time (esp. with that nifty ruler!) Maybe just a table topper or pot holder to start with…something small. Personally, I am happiest when I have 3 projects going at once so I understand your mayhem!

  19. If you consider that to be a mess it is a very organized one. No way could I ever handle three big projects in my little sewing studio.

  21. It might feel messy to you, but you are pretty darned organized! You’re so smart to get everything labeled and in ziplocs. Should you decide to shelve the project for awhile it’s so much easier when you pull it out again.

  23. Your ‘mess’ looks delightful! When you have your own project(s) plus someone else’s it’s bound to be a little disorganized feeling! We’re our own worst critics, don’t you think?

  25. I would definitely include some non-FG reds. I think quilts are more interesting when they include fabric from several different collections. If you have other reds, I say go for it!
I love how this quilt is looking!
