My dining room table is filling up with boutique items. Yesterday my progress doesn't appear so grand as the previous days. I really ran out of steam after the baby left at 6:00. No evening sewing for me. What I accomplished was three boxy zippy bags. The red ones in the foreground are for the shop. I love their plump little "loaf of bread" look. I have three more all prepped to sew and will finish those up today.
Grand total since Sunday: six table runners, five sets of mug rugs, thirteen tissue covers, three zippy bags. My plan is to finish up the three remaining bags and quilt the runners today. Tomorrow I will take everything to the shop and set up a holiday display.
See the mug rugs stacked up on the upper right? I went to Joann's yesterday and bought red ribbon, little white circle tags and some tiny holly berry stickers. I will wrap each set of four mug rugs with a slim red ribbon, and attach a little holly tag to it. It will be a present all ready to give!
Do any of you ever shop at Joann's? I rarely did before I moved up here. I admit I was a snob because I didn't think they had a quality fabric selection. I still don't buy fabric there. However, if I need zippers or notions of any kind, they are pretty much all there is, and at that, they are a half hour away. But I get coupons! Joann's is a place where you are crazy not to use the coupons that come online or in the mail. I have used them to buy great bunches of Warm and Natural batting, fusible interfacing, and other pricier sewing materials. If you aren't on their mailing list, you should sign up. Yesterday Eva and I ventured out there for red zippers and some materials for making the tags for my items. All their holiday merchandise was 40% off, plus I had a coupon that got me $10 additional off. Worth it!
Here is what else I picked up:
An adorable holiday birdie tray that I can use to display my zippy bags at the shop.
A red laquer tray I can use to display the mug rugs with their festive ribbons and holly tags. The Merry Christmas sign I liked because it has a patchwork vibe to it. I will work it in my display somehow!
I also got some burgundy colored taper candles that I will put in some pretty candlesticks to display with my table runners. Once I get my table all set up with my holiday items, I will take a picture to share with you all!

Can’t wait to see the remaining pouches. JoAnn’s is a staple at my house specifically because of their coupons. May I ask what pattern you used for the zippy bags? I have seen a few different patterns for bags like those, but I haven’t bought them because I don’t know if the patterns are really any good. Your bags are adorable.

WHEW – I am exhausted just looking at all the things you have managed to produce in a few days – makes me feel like a real sloth!!! I hope (know) that all of the items will sell like hot cakes.

Love everything you’ve made so far! I agree with the comment above about labeling your display items NFS…they always ask to buy the displays 🙂 Also, what pattern did you use for the boxy pouches…they look familiar? You definitely deserve a big glass of wine after this!

Your holiday workshop has been way more productive than mine, and I don’t have the excuse of a toddler climbing my leg! Congrats on all your hard work. JoAnn’s I frequented a lot more when it was in my town–now I have to drive to the next town (only another 20 minutes door to door) so don’t go as often. Some of their fabric lines are very good so don’t count them out entirely 🙂 Your display is sure to attract plenty of attention!

I am so impressed with your output! Lots of lovely gift-able items coming out of your workshop, Nicole! I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of SOME of the fabrics at JoAnn’s. You just have to be careful and judge the look and the hand of each bolt. I love the items you bought to enhance your handmade goodies!

Woohoo for productivity! Hope you’re planning to kick back and relax this weekend! I get my notions and some of my Kona solids at Joann’s or Hancock Fabrics – the Hancock’s is closer to my house, and the women there seem to be more knowledgeable than the local Joann’s crowd, even if their inventory isn’t quite as large.
