Halloween Preparations

How clever is this invitation?  My sister Andrea makes the Halloween Party invites each year, and this year she may have outdone herself.  I don't know how she does it.  Most of us are quite familiar with the Ouija board, having had them when we were kids.  I love the little magic triangle indicator, don't you?  Underneath it is the address of the party, which I thought wise not to include, and the instruction "Don't be caught dead without a costume".  Love it.

I am spending today getting ready for the Big Day.  Halloween in my neighborhood is very serious.  People bring their children from miles away just to roam the streets in my subdivision and collect candy.  Last year we got 286 trick or treaters.  I am serious.  I counted.

So, preparations need to be made.  300 pieces of candy?  Check.  Decorations outside?  Check.

Yes, I have an orange lighted spider web in my front window.  I am that person.  I am telling you, we go all out around here.

Table set?  Check.

Grandpa and I are going to be on our own tomorrow to pass out the candy.  My husband is working and can't make it home during the middle of the week.  So, after a day of doctor's appointments, Grandpa and I will come home, have pumpkin soup, and position ourselves outside at a table in the driveway to greet the Halloween Hoards.  Can't have them ringing the doorbell because Ozzie goes insane each and every time.  We sit out there all bundled up, surrounded by candles and candy, and sip our tea and compliment all the children on their costumes.

So, just when am I going to finish my Halloween 1904 quilt top, you ask?  Hmmm.  Well, I guess I had better get going on that right now!

  1. Your family is really loaded in the creativity department! Love the Ouija board invitation! And, wow…you & Grandpa are going to be very busy tonight with the massive Trick-or-Treat invasion in your area! It all sounds like a wonderful time…except for poor Ozzie. I’ll bet he’s a bundle of doggie nerves until it’s all over!

  3. great invitation. sounds like a wonderful Halloween night. I wish we could stay outside to watch all the kids…but alas it is too cold in Calgary to do such. Weather is suppose to be yucky tomorrow night, snow or rain yuck. I don’t get many kids at the door and Lily will be going nuts too!

  5. That is the most amazing invitation I’ve ever seen. Andrea is so creative! I hope you have good weather for the hoards so you and Grandpa don’t freeze outside!

  7. That is a very clever invitation! Kudos to Andrea for creating it. Hope you and Grandpa can stay warm and enjoy yourselves outside. It sure is fun to see the kiddos, especially the little ones who don’t quite know the routine yet!

  9. Brilliant invitations!! I had wondered how all adults were convinced to find themselves a costume. Well done, Andrea!!
Love your Halloween decor. Hope you and Grandpa have fun greeting the kids. Hot buttered rum, anyone?!
I spent rainy Monday sewing chevron log cabin blocks as Sandy went by further east of us. I made 28 blocks that lack only their darkest outer logs. That means a center plus 3 rows of logs. I was feeling quite good about that until I realized you’d have the quilt top together already if we’d started at the same time! 🙂
Good luck on getting Halloween 1904 finished.
    Hugs!

  11. Sounds like your house is the go to house! And our dog, too, goes nuts the whole evening and cannot pull himself together… we were just gearing up for the same tomorrow night! I bet Grandpa has a blast handing out candy! Have fun! (Never had pumpkin soup – sounds wonderful – I’ve made soup from squash – I assume pumpkin is the same? And with your Halloween quilt – just think – you are so close – you will have it done in no time and ready for next year!!! So really, you will be ready almost a year early – think of it that way! ;oD

  13. It sounds like you and Gramps are going to have a great time. I’ll be handing out candy, but it will be too cold to sit outside. Maggie is going to have to be locked in the guest bedroom so she doesn’t run out the door. Black dog on a dark night, not a good mix! Have fun. Is baby E dressing up? Expect to see pictures.

  15. I LOVE the invitation!! Some people are so creative!! Not me. ;p Anyway, I love Halloween…it makes my dog so nervous to see the costumes. She just peeks around the corner to watch. ;p
Have a safe and warm Halloween!

  17. FAB invitation, how creative! I wish I be outside handing out candy as my dog will be banished to the basement and then she thinks she’s done something wrong. It’s supposed to pour tomorrow evening so we might be light on the kids. I’m planning for about 150. I love seeing the little ones in their costume.
