Spooktacular

As you can see, I am plodding along with my Halloween 1904 quilt.  Will I finish the top by Halloween?  We shall see.

I got the half square triangles all re-made and finished up all the blocks that required orange ones.  Much progress has been made with the black ones, and some that are pictured above have been finished.  Well, maybe one or two anyway.

I truly love this quilt, but keep saying to myself:  "I am spending this much time, money, and effort on a HALLOWEEN quilt? Really?"  You know what?  It doesn't matter.  I love this quilt and have had so much fun making it, so what if I only use it for four weeks out of the year.  I am even having trouble imagining just *how*  am going to use it!  On my bed?  Hmmm, I don't know.  Maybe not.  Hang it on the wall?  Good gravy, it is gigantic!  Drape it over the sofa?  Maybe.  Time will tell, and at any rate, it is %*&# cute.

Hope you all had a good weekend.  One of the high points of mine was having some long lost friends drop by the shop I work at occasionally.  One of them, a wonderful gay woman, has finally found love in her life.  I am so happy for her.  She was just glowing and couldn't sing her partner's praises high enough.  Ain't love grand?  For any age, any gender, for anyone?  Bless her and her new found happiness.   I endorse love, in all its miraculous forms.

  1. Absolutely lovely – even if you only use it once a year you will remember the pleasure you had in making it.

  3. Now that’s one amazing design wall, you’re going to miss this project once it’s done! I love it, and I’m happy you love it too. Although I think that cat looks like someone wrung its neck, it’s freakily long!

  5. Think of it as a FALL quilt vs a Halloween quilt. I love how it’s turning out.
Congrats to your friend for finding “the one”. Love is a blessing for every one!

  7. Spooktacular is looking perfectly creepy and jazzy! You’ll love using it in whatever way you decide to and will be delighted to get it out again when all future Octobers roll around! I vote to hang it on some large wall like so many quilters do in book, magazine, and blog photos! Do you have a wall it will fit on?
Cheers for love in all its kind, generous, happy, and warm forms!
    Hugs!

  9. It’s looking good. I thought the same thing when I did mine but I love getting it out October first now even if it is only for a short time. The little ones LOVE it too.

  11. I’m in love with this pattern and think that you will have many Octobers of enjoying it ahead of you.
I was at a volleyball tourney this weekend and got to see a former co-worker, her partner and their oldest dd who played. Two wonderful women who have raised two wonderful kids.

  17. Once you have your beautiful quilt finished why not drape it on your dining table with appropriate seasonal decorations on top? It really looks pretty and festive!
Hurray for love! It must have been so heartwarming for you to catch up with a friend who has found happiness and joy in her life!

  23. I would consider this an autumn quilt instead of a Halloween quilt. I’m thinking about making one and subbing brown for the black. Someday!

  25. I am with you on that! Love is a good thing for ALL OF US! It is not a threat or something to be feared. Love can make us better people. ;p
BTW, I LOVE your Halloween 1904 quilt and YES, it is worth it! I did all the embroidery work for Crabapple Hill’s Vintage Halloween but ran out of time to do the piecing. Next year. And when it’s done it’s going to be up on the wall from 9/1 to 11/1! ;p

  27. I am excited to see that you have conquered your quilt and the relationship is wonderful again… even if it is only a Autumn romance! And for your friend… it’s wonderful to have a special someone touch your heart- bless them both!

  29. I love your Halloween quilt. Those colors could go throughout all of Fall, not just Halloween. So cute! And congratulations to your friend, I so agree. Everyone deserves to find that special someone and be happy:)

  33. You are making amazing progress given all the fabric troubles you had. I agree with everyone else who feel that this quilt is a seasonal quilt rather than a holiday specific quilt. I especially like the way your pumpkins turned out.

  35. I am enjoying holloween more because of the items I can make. I have had such fun making fun and cute halloween items. And if I have to store them until next year, fine. But I intend on taking them out earlier next year. I start bringing out Christmas stuff right after the turkey went in the soup pot. Why not extend halloween too.
I very much like your quilt.

  37. I would use it for more than one month a year. It goes with autumn, so both Oct. and Nov. it would be okay. It is looking great so far. Thanks for sharing.

  39. It’s looking great, Nicole! I made my first Halloween quilt last year and am so happy I did! I know you’ll love yours and use it for years to come! I’m just tickled for your friend and her new love, too!
    Cheers!

  41. Hooray for love and horray for your quilt in progress! It’s going to be (it already is) fantastic! I too see it as a fall quilt so you can get lots of enjoyment wherever you decide to display it.
