First Vacation in a Very Long While

The kids and I are on a little vacation this week at Lake Tahoe.  We aren't staying at my favorite place, but this will do.  We are up on a hill overlooking Carson Valley, which is in Nevada.  I feel like we are up in an airplane, we are up so high!  Tomorrow we hope to go down by the lake and see some sights.

We had a lovely drive up here to the mountains, and Baby E seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself.  Once we got here, we put her in a stroller to explore the grounds of the resort, and she thought it was great fun.  This was the first time she had a ride in her little umbrella stroller, and she chortled and squealed like she was on the Dumbo ride at Disneyland.  We'll see how long that thrill lasts!

My son in law, who is a rare gem, has agreed to drive me to Reno tomorrow to see what quilt shops might be there.  Woo hoo.  I hope to report tomorrow on what I saw.

  3. We go to Carson City nearly every year. The Gardnerville shop is a “must see”. In Reno I think one is the Windy Moon – you can see its sign from a long way off. I don’t think they ever purge fabrics, so I found some oldies there. Have fun!

    How delightful to anticipate seeing new-to-you quilt shops – and the shop suggestions from your blog friends will save you so much time.

  15. Oh my, have lots of fun Nicole! I just got back from a mini vacation myself…..bringing my son home from college….stumbled upon a little shop that was a “sew N vac” place that was superb for fabric! Who knew? I could have dropped $200 easily there, but restrained myself to just 2 cuts of fabric.

  19. You are in my neck of the woods. Lovely view of the Carson Valley. In Reno there is Windy Moon, Going Batty, Sierra Sewing and you must go to the Quilt House in Gardnerville. That is my local quilt shop that I do BOM and have taken numerous classes. Enjoy your vacation. I’m sure it is much needed. Look forward to seeing what goodies you buy!

  31. Windy Moon’s Quilt Shop is fabulous – prepare to spend some time in there.
    A little tidbit from a Nevadan – I believe that Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in North America. The lake is deeper than the Carson Valley floor! Amazing!
