My Little Applique Project

005
Well, half my apples are appliqued onto the background fabric!  The polka dot one on the far left is the most recently done one, and I can see that I am getting better.  Still have four more leaves to do on this side, then six apples, stems and leaves on teh other side.  It will be a cute little runner when I get it done.  Maybe even this fall!

I love that fabric that runs down the middle of the piece, between the two black strips.  The design looks *exactly* like apple seeds!

Omg.  I didn't tell you.  This weekend is my high school reunion.  I won't tell you how many years, because it is shocking, and my teeth will all fall out when they realize how old I am.  (They forgot.  Teeth are dumb).  Anyway, I have a way cute outfit I think I may wear, and proper over the top footwear.  On Friday, I will meet up with my BFF from that era, Ginger, who is now a drama professor at a Bay Area university.  Oh my, did we have fun back in the day.  We went to Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane concerts at the Winterland Ballroom, and pretended not to notice the definitely illegal fragrance in the air.  Those were the days.  We were cool, but pretended to be way cooler than we really were!

Then, Saturday is the big day.  Everyone who is still on the continent and kicking will be there.  Cubberley Class of 19**.  Big turnout.

My high school beau will be there, which always makes me want to make that extra effort to have the perfect outfit and makeup.  His son just got married today, so how he is able to make it to the reunion is a story in itself.  His wife can't be thrilled about him ditching the relatives that must have turned up for the occasion.  That just shows you how big a draw these reunions are!

I always have such regrets when I go to my reunions.  I realize that there were so many wonderful individuals that for whatever reason, I did not befriend back then when I had the opportunity.  They turned out to be intelligent, interesting, multi dimensional people who would have been fabulous additions to my life.  Why didn't I recognize that when I was 15 or 16?  I had my safe little circle of friends, and stuck with it and never ventured farther afield. Something I will caution my little grand daughter Evangeline about.

So, these reunions are opportunities aren't they?  Life is never so short that we can't add friendships, no matter how late in the game.  I will let you know how I do!

  5. Nicole, Your needle turn apples are wonderful. I never could get my clumsy fingers to cooperate, so on the advice of my dear friend from Australia, Gail Pan of “Gail Pan Designs”, I gave up the needle turn for and learned to do blanket stitch applique’ by hand. For some reason I can do that and it looks pretty good. I know it’s easier on the machine, but I wanted so badly to do my applique by hand. Have a wonderful time at your reunion. *whispering* I hated high school so I haven’t been to a single one of my reunions, and I graduated in 1968. I got good grades, just didn’t like school. Go figure!

  11. Have a blast at the reunion. I hope you discover some wonderful “new” people from your past. Keep in mind what a friend of mine always tells me: we’re not getting older, we’re getting better.

  13. Ahem, when you mention specific concerts, you are beginning to give away your age. πŸ™‚
We had a very fun high school class, with no one who will organize a reunion. We had one at 10 years, and that was it. I just attend my husband’s reunions, wondering all the while if we now look as old as everyone else does who is there.

  15. What a great attitude to take to the reunion. All you need is a pair of over-the-top shoes and you will look fabulous. Hope you have a wonderful time.

  17. Oh Nicole, what sweet apples those are – I too love the fabrics…can’t wait to see it finished.
Hope you have (had) a blast with all the reunion festivities. So, we get to see a pic of you with the fabulous footwear and dress, right?!? And I think that telling the number of years is a badge – of wisdom! I almost choked when I realized this year was 30 years h.s. for me – and 25 from college! And from the concerts you mentioned, it’s a wee bit more for you – but wear it PROUD!!
Any news for on the studio front?

  19. Unlike lots of people, I love class reunions. We had a small graduating class, only 67, and everybody was friends to everybody else to some degree or another. We’re planning our, dare I say it, 50th reunion for next summer. I hope you have fun at yours. And don’t worry. You’ll look great, probably better than that old beau.

  23. My teenage granddaughter works the concession stand at an events arena. Recently they had a “major Singer” come for a concert and she told me about the aroma in the arena and the fact that they sold oodles of food! My friend was there with her former drug enforcement officer and he laughed about the aroma. My granddaughter was amazed that they got away with it!
