Thank you all for your encouraging and supportive comments on dealing with elderly parents. It is so difficult to know if one is making the correct decision. You want to do the best for them, and yet it has to be convenient and safe and affordable. Luckily, there are lots of choices out there, and I know we will make a good one.
Still no updates on the quilting studio, so I am joining the ranks of the majority of quilters–Using the good ol' kitchen table.
I got Baby E's Central Park quilt back from the quilter, and must get the binding on ASAP. Baby E is due in 13 days! I went with Sara to her doctor appointment yesterday and he says she is about to burst. He is not willing to let her go beyond her due date, so we should have a baby in the very near future.
This photo shows the beautiful quilting off very well, I think. Debbie at Prairie Queens did it and I love the design she chose. And the thread color is a pale yellow, which seems to be the perfect choice. April convinced me to go with an aqua binding, and I think it sets things off very well.
Forgive me if I am a bit distracted today. I just learned that a very dear friend of mine passed away. He was a better friend to me than I was to him, and my heart breaks that I won't be able to tell him how much I valued him over the years. I hope he knew. I saw him a couple of weeks ago, thank goodness, but our conversation consisted mainly of trivialities and promises on my part to see him more often. My fondest memory of him, and I have many, is one July 14th evening when he was at my house for a dinner al fresco. He burst into song, singing the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, in honor of the date. He knew all the words. In French. All the gentlemen at the table joined in, amazing everyone present. Vive La France. He was a jewel amonst men. My friend Debasis Sen. I will miss you.

I’m glad you found a place to set up and plug in your sewing machine! Central Park is so pretty and the quilting is wonderful. I agree that the aqua binding is perfect. Wonder how many quilts Baby E will have before she is 5 years old?!!
Wishing you and DH wisdom in choosing how to handle this worrisome situation with his parents. I wish his parents a spirit of cooperation and confidence that you and he are acting in their best interests and that you both will help them.
My sympathy in the loss of your dear friend. Hold onto those charming memories.
Do you remember the cafe scene in Casablanca when La Marseillaise was sung? What was noticed as the scene was being filmed was that most of the actors singing were actually French and were singing from their hearts.
Big hugs!

I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. That is such a wonderful memory you shared with us.
Central Park quilt is just darling!!! Looks like you’ll be really busy with bindings the next few weeks! 🙂

Love your new header Nicole. A bright surprise. Your friends and family memories are so precious. I remember my mother’s last words to me as though she said them this morning. Your grandbaby is here in no time it seems (always goes faster for those looking on, doesn’t it?) Focus on that and your quilting for yourself, and the other issues will come together as they are meant to be. Hospice was a good ally for us in getting care and working out issues for us when the time came for my mother to move and have supervision. Hang in there.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. Nothing any of us might say will be able to convince you he knew you were a good friend to him, as well. But, please don’t be too hard on yourself and treasure the memories you have of time spent with him. Life definitely has a cycle and soon your new grandbaby will be here…and your friend will be smiling down on you.

I missed reading your post yesterday, but can certainly relate. My hubby’s siblings have been caring for their parents, IN THEIR OWN HOME for three years now. They take turns staying 24/7, and have hired a companion/health care person that comes in three days a week to give the family a break. It IS very expensive, but the family wants to keep their 90/92 year old parents in their own home if possible. There are 5 siblings and we all live in the same town. It is very hard, as my MIL who has Parkinson’s has become angry and is taking it out on the family. FIL has dementia, but they both insist that they can take care of themselves!!! It’s been very emotionally and physically draining on the siblings, especially the two sisters who live on the same property. I hope your situation gets resolved. And my sympathies to you on the loss of your friend. It is so hard to see a Heart friend go, especially when they are still young.

I am sorry, Nicole, to hear both of your friend’s passing and of your in-law’s and the dilemma you and your husband are having. It is hard. We just lost my husband’s mom and thankfully, his sister was just down the road and she lived in a senior place (willingly). I love your shoe cubby – mine are stacked in boxes upon boxes and a small cubby. Glad to see, too that you have pulled out the sewing machine to help the fabric therapy!! Love the quilts; watermelon one is sweet on your green chase! Keep on keeping…good luck with the in-laws.

So sorry to hear of the passing of your dear friend. I’m sure he knew how much you cared. The situation with your inlaws is also disheartening. Hopefully they will realize that the assisted living situation will be the best for them. One can hope they will realize! Love your Central park and the watermelon quilt header! Perfect for summer. Big hugs to Sara and she lives through these next few days full of excitement!

What a lovely quilt! I’m currently have a love affair with Central Park and I haven’t seen a setting yet that I don’t like it in! I’m so sorry about your friend (and I bet he knew how much you meant to him – hugs!)

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re having a trying time Nicole. I’m sure your friend will have realized how much you appreciate him though and your PILs will finally realize that they have no option but to move. I hope the latter comes sooner rather than later for your peace of mind.
The quilt is beautiful. Your daughter and her baby will love it!!
Just focus on grannydom – now isn’t that something nice to look forward to!

The quilt is gorgeous, as is the quilting. Your new grandbaby will certainly enjoy snuggling under it. Sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. He sounds like a very special person.

The baby quilt is gorgeous! Glad you are getting some sewing time while waiting for your glorious new studio to materialize.
Sorry to hear of your friend’s passing. It’s always sad to think of the things you didn’t say! I believe he knew how you felt.

Just scrolling through your archives and ran across the “plastic on my iron” problem. If you soak the tip (with the plastic on it) in oil or squirt oil on it several times, when you reheat the iron to low, you can pry the plastic off. Conversely, freezing the tip and plastic should allow the plastic to crack and then be pried off. Try both ways.

Baby E’s quilt is really cute, I’m sure you can’t hardly wait until she’s born. I know I felt that way about a year ago, but now can’t imagine life w/o my 11 month old granddaughter – life will never be the same! Sorry for your loss.

You are so blessed in so many ways… to have a sweet grandchild on the way and a dear friend to hold close to your heart.

The quilt is beautiful. Love the aqua binding on it. Sorry about the loss of your friend. We just buried my sweet DIL’s father last week. 65 years old. Nasty old lung cancer. But we, like you, have some good memories to hold in our hearts.

Love your baby quilt, Nicole. I had an email last night saying our grandbaby might be here by the end of next week! I am so excited! Can’t wait till we’re both cuddling our sweet little granddaughters. I wish we lived closer to ours; we’ll just have to make that trip way more often.
So sorry for the loss of your friend. That is never easy.

Beautiful quilt for a much-anticipated baby.
I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your dear friend. He probably knew how dear he was to you. But it’s a great reminder to live each day, and to tell people how much they mean to you.
Good luck with your parents-in-law. Sounds as if it’s time for the move, whether they want to go or not. It will work out. And they will get used to it. And, most of all, it is for the best. They need to be safe and cared for.
Good luck.

LOVE your newest quilt. I made a similar quilt in similar colors a couple yrs ago. I initially didn’t like the fabric but the colors were perfect for the friend I wanted to give it to. In the end I really loved it and had a hard time giving it away. I can’t wait for pictures of the new baby. You will LOVE being a Grandma!
