I am doing a giveaway in honor of the wrap up of the Fat Quarter Winners book tour next week. The prize will be a copy of the new, hot off the presses, Fat Quarter Winners book by Monique Dillard, plus a set of her fabulous rulers "Fit To Be Geese", "Mini Fit To Be Geese" and "Fit To Be Square".
Leave a comment on today's post and you will have a chance to win a great prize. As a matter of fact, leave comments on Monique's, Thelma's and Lisa's blogs on their book tour posting days this week, and have four chances to win! Monique is today, Thelma is Wednesday and Lisa is Thursday.
I thought you all might get kick out of this. This workshop is currently how my future quilting studio is being used. The present owner loves to work with wood, and has it set up as a shop for himself. You saw how immaculate his garage was in a previous post. It can't come as much of a surprise that his wood working shop looks as if you could eat off the floor. I swear, by comparison, the rest of us look like total slobs compared to these people.
There are two windows, a double front entry door, and lots of wall space for cabinets and book cases. I am still waffling over whether to hire a cabinet maker to custom install all the storage units for fabric and patterns and "stuff", or if I should order pre made cabinetry from Ikea. I have a friend who recently redid her quilting room with Ikea cabinets and they are amazing.
It is going to be such fun to share my remodeling journey with all of you! Have any of you done a set up of a quilting studio/area in your home? Is there anything you want to share? Or maybe warn me about? Anything if you could do it again, how you might do it differently? Anything you did that you are loving? Tell, tell, we all want to know.

Hi Nicole, I’ll be the first commenter so probably don’t have much of a chance of being the fortunate winner of the book and tools.
That is going to be quite some quilting studio- I would go with custom made if the cost is affordable otherwise Ikea would certainly do the trick – they do have a great variety of cabinets which work well together.
Enjoy the planning!!!!

Definitely go with Ikea. I just converted my family room into a quilting room/studio. I used Ikea Pax closets for fabric storage, two Varde kitchen islands from Ikea for a cutting table and an ironing station and an Ikea dining table for a sewing table. Billy bookcases with glass doors hold my quilt books and some quilty knick knacks. I made a 5′ x 6′ design wall by covering Foamular with two Fons and Porter design walls. I love the whole room.
Enjoy the process.

Excellent — I liked the “Whist” pattern most from yesterday.
As someone in their mid-20s, I have no sewing room and need to be able to store everything away on a moment’s notice! I use my kitchen table, and everything goes into bags or boxes when I’m not using it.

I would love to have your dilemma of deciding how to furnish and arrange a quilt studio but alas, I do not, so I am going to love watching your journey and be just a wee bit envious lol! Ikea would be a great place to start. I bet there is everything you need for storage and I just love the clean, simple lines of their products. A good backdrop for all the wonderful fabric and projects. Thanks for the great preview of Monique’s book. Her patterns are the best.

Looking forward to seeing your process for the studio. Ready made cabinets might be great, you’ll know from playing with the design before starting the construction. I think the “bigger” elements like design wall (and sight line), the actual work spaces, lighting and all of your storage space come first. Leave room for that rocker and a little girl’s sewing corner too!!

Didn’t Carrie do her Sewing studio from IKEA? I think her shelves looked great. And this book looks SO awesome. I’d love a set of these “Fit to Be” rulers. Thanks so much for taking the time to review Monique’s book. I know you have a lot ahead of you 😉

Nicole, what an adventure ahead of you and how fun is that going to be to design your quilting studio! Thanks for all the great postings on Monique’s new book. It definitely is one I think I will have to have!
I also enjoy your postings about your dogs. We have an Airedale who doesn’t know he is a dog and who brings us great joy and laughter. Looking forward to following your journey designing “your space”.

The new space looks awsome! I would also go with Ikea. I have always had a sewing room – either an extra bedroom or the “formal dining room” – if the house has another eating area in the kitchen. My hubby is a ham radio operator and he also needs his own room – it’s always a challenge for the Realtor! We pick a house based on “our rooms” and then consider the other aspects! Have fun planning the new space!

Love the new book you are previewing and would love a copy for my library.

I’d have to say height. Make sure that every table you cut fabric on, sew on or sit at is the right height for you. Nothing worse then having an aching back every time you have to cut fabric or just the awakwardness of leaning in to sew. Enjoy your wonderful opportunity to make this studio…ALL yours. Can’t wait to see the photos.
Wow! How great to have your own studio. It will be fun to see the progress. I have a quilt in mind if I win the book, and even if I don’t! I would like to have Monique’s rulers also. What a treat. Thanks for the chance to enter.

A while ago I saw the perfect sewing room on Trends and Traditions (ankastreasures.wordpress.com) It was fabulous. It’s Heather’s sewing room. It’s worth hunting down and looking at before you make a final decision.

So pleased for you, Nicole!! It all happens at the right time. Oh, your sewing den is going to be fabulous. After trying various nooks as in kitchen, dining room, and even sharing a sons bedroom I am now in one corner of the Lounge Room which faces North. It is the best I have had here. DH and DS made a cube bookcase for my sewing needs and it is great. We worked out sizes to fit two stacks of fabric in each cube and for it to fit between the window and wall. It is perfect for all my needs and keeps the room tidier. Good luck with packing and renovating, oh what fun!!

I am getting ready to redo my 2 bedrooms and move my bed and furniture into the smaller bedroom and all of my sewing things into the master. I can’t wait to get painting! Good luck!

Hi Nicole,
I’d love the book and really want the rulers. I’d definitely think Ikea. I have my quilting space in our finished attic space. The nooks and walls were pretty space crazy so I measured at least two times and went to Ikea and found some great stuff at really reasonable prices. I have been out of town for a week with a family issue so I want to congratulate you on the move. I did this 5 years ago when my daughter was pregnant with her first and I think you know I nanny the two girls now while Mom works. I don’t regret it for one moment. They are such a blessing in my life.
Best Wishes,
Mary

A great view from your sewing table is my suggestion. Being able to look up and out a window is good for your eyes – and you can keep tabs on what is happening outside while you work away in your dream space! I look forward to your posts about designing your studio.
Thanks for offering the FQ Winners book and rulers for your giveaway. I like rulers!

This room is going to be so fun for you in your turned-over life Nicole. Good luck on your move and your room design; looks like plenty of space for your stitching. Leave a corner for grandbaby’s playthings. Thanks for thinking of us with the drawing for the new book and rulers.

My sewing room is pretty scrappy, extra book shelfs, unwanted dresser etc. I can’t wait to see how you set up your new space.

You’re so lucky to have such a nice space for your studio. My “studio” is a 9 X 11 room in the basement with no windows. It does have a finished ceiling and walls but no room for storage or a cutting table. That’s all in another room in the basement. Have fun putting your dream room together.

Your sewing room is going to be incredible! I made one of my spare bedrooms my sewing room and just love it! One thing to keep in mind, you can never have too many outlets! My room does not have enough so keep this in mind when doing your re-modeling! Thank you for a chance to win! Can’t wait to see the final reveal!

How fun to have your own space. As a previous IKEA employee many moons ago, I would suggest their cabinets! They are very versatileans come in so many sizes and colours. Look at the wardrobe and kitchen cabinets. Take your room dimensions and wish list and they will help design your storage space. I have enjoyed the book tour, but I would really enjoy my own copy and the rulers would be a bonus!!!

I would love to have a studio to re-decorate. I think in my next house I will be making a room into a studio. I think the next house will be my last until retirement so I can splurge.
I would go with IKEA. I think I would go that route so I can have the flexibility of changing my mind. If I want to change things up a bit i can just move things around. I also recommend paying attention to Height and Light. I think that we don’t tend to forget the height part just because everyone talks about it, but lighting is so very important too. I don’t want to place a cutting station in a low lit area and I won’t put my fabrics in direct sunlight, so when you are designing the layout of your room pay attention to those windows and replace that lightbulb with something that will provide better light. Good Luck and thanks for taking us on this journey with you.

Once you think you have enough shelving …. add more! (learned this the hard way)
Once you think you have enough shelving …. add more! (learned this the hard way)
Congratulations on your new house. You’re going to have a great time putting this all together.
My two cents regarding the sewing room is figure out the lighting first, and then design the rest of the room around that. To me, good lighting makes or breaks a quilting room, although it sounds like you have lots of natural light in that space. My sewing room, which is just an average size bedroom, has three sets of track lights, plus a center light that has seven bulbs. I love it – I can get a suntan in there if I want. But the light makes it such a pleasure to be in there. Maybe that wouldn’t make such a difference in California, but a Wisconsin winter is so dark to begin with, the light is a requirement.
Also, I would like a wood floor in a sewing room. I currently have carpet, but if I was starting from scratch, I’d do a wood laminate floor.
The Ikea cabinets sound like a good idea. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them.
A good sturdy pressing station is really important, too. I love my Big Board on top of a cabinet – it’s much better than an ironing board.
I can’t wait to see what you do with your new space! Thanks for having the giveaway.

Nicole, the only recommendation I can make for a sewing room, is make it work for you. I have tried sewing in friends sewing workshops and find myself trying to change it to my set up. We are all creatures of habit. Have fun !

I love fat quarters! They are such a fun way to build my stash. Your new quilting studio is going to be great. Love all of the open space! I would definitely go with the IKEA cabinets! I have IKEA products in my quilt/craft room and love them.

It looks like a great book and I have tons of fat quarters!
I have a couple of those PAX wardrobes from Ikea with pull out wood drawers – I just love them – they are so big and the drawers pull out completely. One has the doors on it and one does not. I could probably use about 5 of them though!

What a great place for your studio! Anne Sutton, Heather Peterson & Carrie Nelson have all shown detailed pix of their studios recently. It would be worth it to take a peek at their blogs for inspiration! Light & height do sound like good advice! I spotted Thelma’s Horn table last year and immediately had to have one! Oh, boy! It’s right up there with fork pins in my opinion!! Love ’em both!

Congratulations on your upcoming awesome design studio! My first question is: what color for the walls? I know a lot of people stick with white, but I love the True Turquoise I painted in my sewing room (which is the grandson’s room for the foreseeable future.) If there is a color you find energizing and inspirational, you might want one wall at least of that.
You should do whatever your budget allows for storage.

I am working on the redo of my sewing area. I ordered IKEA cabinets because I can move things around, add a piece, replace something…once I am actually working in the space… without a huge cost and major regret for mistakes. I look forward to watching your project develop and further refining my space.
I’d love to win this book and the rulers. Thanks for the giveaway.

I have seen several studios done up with the Ikea premades and they are gorgeous! You couldn’t go wrong with either decision. You will have a ton of fun! Enjoy your new adventure!

My hubby would be drooling all over the place looking at that wood working shop, LOL! He has a lot of hobbies and never enough space.
It will be so much fun for you to convert that space and organize it just to your liking. Thanks for offering this great give-away and I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

What fun Nicole to start from the begining. I have a spare room for my sewing and cutting but I mostly use it for storage as I like to sew in the living room and hear my dh and the tv while there. I would suggest that if you build a cutting area or layout area (ie island) that you put it on castors or wheels and have it cut or measured to your comfort level….In our quilting group we have legs that we can add to our regular large tables that are removable and add to the height of the table which makes it very nice for cutting etc. My dh made some for my table (portable folding) out of pvc and what a difference…luv luv luv it
anyway enjoy all the processes.

Hi Nicole: So, some of us are lucky enough to have a room in our house dedicated to quilting but an entire separate studio…? I say go with IKEA and use the money you save for more fabric. The cubby hole units they sell are great for storing bins holding an entire project together. I bought a couple of 8 foot tables from Staples for pinning and basting. Some of those leg booster thingys from the bath store raises them to a comfortable level for that purpose. (I ordered the tables on line, the delivery guys even set them up for me and took the empty boxes with them). Such pleasure awaits you with all you are anticipating. What fun!!!

Hi Nicole,
I’d love to win book and rulers, but I’m buying them very soon, anyway! How exciting to get a new studio; I’m green with envy. I used an Ikea wardrobe and added basket drawers for my fabric collection. I have hundreds of yards of fabric in 11 baskets in one deep wardrobe unit. It works so well, and has doors to protect fabric from sunlight. Have a great time with planning and implementing studio ideas!

Thanks for the giveaway! I love fat quarters and have plenty of them to play with 🙂
That workshop is amazingly clean, I agree–kind of what I think Norm Abrams’ looks like. Me, I’d go with ready made cabinets though if you have to assemble them yourself it might be more time-consuming than you planned.

oh I’m so excited for the chance to win the book AND tools!
I’ve never remodeled, I live in an apartment where I’m not allowed to so much as hang a shelf, but you’ve got a great space to play with there!

Your book tour has been wonderful, Nicole! And I’m so excited for your new studio! My only suggestion is to get as much space as you possibly can – and you’ve done it! My space is tiny and efficient, but I would love to wave a magic wand and double the size!!
Cheers!

I purchased two large six-foot white cabinets at OSH for my sewing room. They each have two doors that open to three shelves, although you could add more shelves. They also have one large and three narrow drawers and all the doors/drawers have decorative fronts with silver handles. I love them and they are made really well. I even put one together myself!!! On my walls I have hanging cabinets that I purchased at Home Depot. They each have three flat white doors with two shelves inside. I have room in my sewing room for four of the wall units and they hang over my tables. My tables are just stock tables I purchased at Office Depot. I bought curtain rods to hang on the front of them and plan on making skirts to hang from them to hide all my other stuff. Right now I can’t afford custom sewing tables and I like the height of these tables, which is 28 1/2″. All these pieces were really reasonably priced. My splurge was a cutting table that hubs bought me from our local quilting store. It is just the right height so my back doesn’t go out! I’ll send you pictures. I did a post on it but don’t remember when it was….
I don’t know if you read it, but I suggested a Dutch door for your sewing “cabin”. I think that would be just darling. Oh, that and a flat screen television! You are going to have so much fun putting it together. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

You lucky girl. That is going to be an amazing space. You might want to check out Alicia Paulson’s blog, rosylittlethings.typepad.com
and go into her archives of August 2010, she redid her sewing studio and used a lot of Ikea stuff so maybe that will give you some ideas.

Just don’t forget during the planning stage to set aside a little bit of space for the baby equipment/toys you will need to entertain your precious new grandbaby. To save a ton of money, I’d go with the Ikea cabinets. Saved dollars could then go toward a long-arm quilting machine later on. Good luck Nicole.

Looking forward to seeing your studio. Thanks for the giveaway. I have some IKEA pieces in my quilting room and they have been very useful.

What a great time you have ahead of you! And how envious are we who sew in converted bedrooms!! Also, really love the book. I’m really enjoying watching the new versions progress.

I would love to win the book and set of rulers, which I promise to share. As for the posted garage and woodworking spaces – they are cleaner than my house. It looks like they are brand new and no one has stepped foot into them. Makes me want to move and start all over again.

Go buy the book on setting up a studio. I have heard the author speak and I own the book, it is excellent. Gives you lots to think about. It shows you how to map out your room on graph paper, HUGE help when buying furniture for your studio. I opted for the wire baskets under my cutting table. I also love having my laptop in my sewing room,

What a wonderful give-away. I would love to win the book and rulers ! I recently finished converting 1 of my bedrooms into a quilt studio / office. I bought all of my cabinets & counter at home depot. I just love all of my drawers and cabinets to keep me organized.

Hi Nicole,
I think I’d go with IKEA if their cabinets are nice. I bought some from them years ago for my sewing cubby hole and I still like them. What I wish I had and don’t? Three things – a very large table for cutting out, a design wall and space for a long arm machine….maybe in my next life. Oh and I’m also a believer in making things cosy!

I am in envy of your new space! What fun to plan, and then see it come to life. I have no advice to give…I’m lucky to have a small room for my quilting space!

I think I would go with Ikea, Nicole. It would be much faster and probably less costly. And they have such a wide variety of storage and shelving. You could then get into your sewing room/studio as soon as possible. I find the more shelves you have the better. Especially a small area where you can put a few projects that you might be working on in a day. My sewing room is small so my ironing board usually becomes that shelf. I also like my cutting table in front of a window.

Sorry, I can’t help with the design process. My sewing room is in my dining room. I do have a large Koala cabinet that shuts up nicely if I want to have people over to dinner. (HA! like that ever happens!) We talked about adding on to the back of the house so I could have sewing space. But we decided to pay off the house first. You will have such a wonderful sewing space when it is finished! Have fun!

I recently got my own sewing/crafting space after waiting more than 30 years. I call it “The Tree Fort” because it’s carved out of our third floor, walk-up attic and because it’s the play space I always wanted, but never had, as a kid. The best part is the 42″ x 72″ x 36″ work/storage table my husband made by stealing .. err.. copying an idea from Jodi at Pleasant Home. It’s great for cutting, pinning long pieces, and laying out parts for assembly-line sewing. I send pics, but my camera is broken. Whatever you do be sure to leave space for the little one. Babysitting and quilting — Heaven!

Since becoming a quilter, I’ve moved a couple of times. The cabinets that the carpenter makes are built-ins, and that meant that I had to start over in our current home. This time, the cabinets are freestanding pieces of furniture. We don’t plan on moving, but they can go with if we do. These cabinets were unfinished pieces of furniture, and I’m very happy with them. IKEA makes great pieces, but they were too modern for our house.
Please post pics of your progress – it’s loads of fun putting a sewing room together!
I’ve seen pics from this book, and the quilts look great, so I would love to have a copy:)

It looks like a great space! I wish my husband’s workshop was as immaculate. I don’t know how he was able to do it. As for the cabinets, I would see if Ikea had come that would work nicely and save the rest of the money for more fabric!

This book looks great and I’m a gadget gal and I love different rulers, especially if they help improve accuracy and piecing! Looks like you are going to have a wonderful quilting studio—I think Ikea would have lots of options to customize your space.
Good Luck! Thanks for the chance to win the book and rulers!

You are one lucky lady. A garage ready to take pretty much anything you can throw at it, Plus you can Park Your Cars in it. Not to mention a sewing studio and Only 1/2 a mile from your daughter and a soon-to-be grandbaby. Sounds like a terrific blessing.
Thanks for the opportunity. I’ve looked at the pictures in this book, exciting stuff.

I would love to win Monique’s very first book, and her fantastic rulers! My girlfriend just redid her sewing room with Ikea products. She held the grand opening tour last week at our bee, and our members were all drooling.

Wow, your future studio space looks amazing. Sadly, I don’t have any tips — I’ve been thinking lately that my sewing room is a disaster so I’m not a good one to give advice! Great giveaway, thanks for the chance.

It will be so fun. You will have a wonderful time designing your own space. So many possibilities. I have a spare room which I use for sewing but everything is temporary in nature. I have to put up everything at times for company. This space will be a real luxury. Great giveaway too! Thanks for the chance.

Love the book, I had bought a few fat quarters sets but I stopped because I have no idea on how to use them. This could be a good book to have.

I think I’d just like the owner of the house you’re buying to come round and organise me! Although, I’d have to spend a week cleaning and tidying first.
I’d love to be in the draw for the giveaway please – both the book and rulers are on my wishlist.

I’d also go with Ikea cupboards, think of all the fabric you can buy with the difference! I made my (small) spare bedroom and, as one of the two sockets is behind my wall of (Ikea) bookcases, I’d say that having plenty of power points is important! Thanks for the giveaway – I’m enjoying the book tour and can’t wait for more photos of your studio!

Nicole,
I am so happy for you! I have enjoyed reading your blog for a very long time – I lived in Monterey and when you write about your neck of the woods, it brings back fond memories.
I would imagine that the individual who currently owns this home is very happy that a room where he/she spent so much time creating will continue to play that same role in someone else’s life. I am wondering if the perfect cabinet maker is still living in the home?
You asked for ideas and thoughts. We live out in the “country” and my husband and I have a small sanctuary in our home for senior, special needs dogs who were “placed” in a shelter and were determined to be unadoptable due to medical conditions. We have a small number because we attempt to do our best to resolve every medical issue, and we want to ensure that their quality of life is absolutely fantastic. The goal is that when they leave this planet they will know that they have been adored. We refinished our room over the garage to be a place that is totally dog friendly- and a place for my office and hobbies. We decided to have custom cabinets/shelves primarily because standard size shelving probably would not have worked due to the gabled roof. I also love flowers, and we had the cabinets and shelves built so that they line the walls with very small tubular grow lights (purchased at a hydroponic nursery). They emit a wonderful glow, they brighten the room, they are not noisy and it allows me to have beautiful flowers and orchids lining the room. I love them!
Everyone who worked on the room had been previously employed by the local Ford plant. Without any warning the plant had closed The man who built my cabinets/shelving worked at the Ford plant building custom offices- that was his full time job. He does extraordinary work and incorporated details and design elements from other rooms in our house. The plasterer told me how lucky he was to have a trade – that he could still support his family when he lost his job. From the electrician to the plasterer to the painter – they did a fabulous job. It is a good feeling to know that my family was able to provide needed work and support to other families.
We also needed to heat and cool the room – I don’t know if that is one of your needs, but we had a Samsung system installed and we like it very much. It is unobtrusive and does a great job at heating and cooling.
I spend almost all my time in this room, and do not regret the extras that we did. Today I got an “emergency” call about a tiny, senior poodle who had been abandoned and was asked if I could take one more. I happened to have a “spot” available. Having this terrific room gives me so much flexibility, and the little “abandoned” poodle is sitting on my lap as I type this.
Wishing you extraordinary joy on your journey.

Wow! The studio is going to be fantastic! I would look to add a day bed or something for the baby to nap in case you have babysitting time. I don’t think it matters what kind of cabinets you go for as long as there are lots of them! I think the layout matters most. I know theres a quilting space book but I can’t remember the name of it. But it had ideas for all size studios.

What a wonderful sewing space! I’m currently debating moving my sewing stuff to the finished room of our basement. It’s twice the size. I have to add heat and air conditioning so that will be my big expense. There are quite a few good websites with quilt studio ideas. I googled designing quilting rooms. There are also some great books out there. I think I would go with the Ikea storage items. Folks seem real pleased with their items. Keeping my fingers crossed. I’d especially love to win the rulers:) I’m going back to read the comments on your post to see if I discover some ideas for my “relocation” plans:) Take care!

I love your blog, but I tend to stay in the shadows because your creativity and expertise makes me feel somewhat intimidated.
I’m so happy for your new studio. We are currently looking at property ourselves and my only criteria is to have a “studio just like Nicole’s.”

I’d probably go with Ikea so you can move them around. What if you find custom cabinets take away 2″ of space you need for a long arm machine? I’d be a grumpy gal!

The rulers and book would be fantastic to win! I am redoing a sewing space too. I think I am going with iKEA. I have seen some great sewing studios on line and they all used IKEA. So glad that everything is working for you and your family! I moved from MidWest to Maine 3 years ago to be near children and grandchildren. New job, new home etc. It is such a gift to be close to the grandchildren…you are going to have the time of your life!

Save space for the quilting machine! That’s one thing I wish I had held out for when we were house hunting. I have enjoyed seeing the previews of the book, looks like a good one!

Hi Nicole, make the floor ‘soft and comfortable’. You would be surprised to find out how much your feet hurt standing all day…oh wait, you already do that at work! Well, no advice from me then. ;0
I would love to have the fit to be square rulers! ;0

LOVING this giveaway! My friend just did her sewing room and it is awesome! The things I really loved about it was all the natural light. She also had a great design wall with track lighting above it to highlight her current work in progress. Aother great thing was the electrical outlet on the floor just under her sewing table!! No tripping over cords! Thanks for the chance to win!

Would love to win that book! And I will be enjoying the updates on your move and remodel, too! Looks like a daunting task. I’m glad it’s you and not me! I don’t think I’d have the energy to move!

I have a sewing room I never use. It is too small. I use the family room where I can spread out and leave my fabric everywhere and no one minds because it’s just me and DH. 🙂 I would love, love, love a copy of the book and rulers!! Thanks for the giveaway. You will have so much fun designing your quilt studio! Can’t wait to see what you decide to do with it.

I am happily anticipating the joy you will have in a newly outfitted quilting studio. I waited many years for my own space. I started out on the kitchen table, graduated to a 5th-hand desk and then an assortment of tables. My wonderful son-in-law built me a cutting table to die for and hubby installed big-box-store cabinets and I’m in heaven. Now all I need is time!

Hi Nicole, CONGRATULATIONS!!! This is going to be one FABULOUS studio! We are all envious of your new space, and it’s going to be great fun to see what you do with it. Ikea always has beautiful storage, so I’d vote for that. Thank you for the chance to win the fantastic giveaway. The patterns look wonderful, and the rulers look like staples for any quilter! I hope you pick me! All the best from Vicki in Stamford, CT

Nicole, that will be a wonderful sewing studio. A pressing station, cutting area and storage, storage and more storage.
That is what I would want. Plus a comfortable chair or loveseat and a lamp for hand sewing and relaxing. Look at what you have now that can be re-purposed.

Thankyou so much for the chance to win the book. Just love all that scrap and using fat quarters provides plenty of that. To have the rulers too would be wonderful.
Just love the workshop and so love the smell of wood.
Your studio is going to be great:-).

Along with many…Ikea is awesome. I have it in my sewing room and totally love it. I actually have it in a lot of places in my house. It’s reasonably affordable and it’s sturdy. Have fun.

I LOVE Ikea! When I redo my craft/quilt room I am going to order from Ikea. My father has worked in the custom cabinet industry for years and while custom cabinets are cool, they cost way more, going with Ikea you can get the same great look yet have cash left over for fabric. Lots and lots of fabric!

Here’s what I did initially in my sewing — I left it just as it was and just set my machine up on a table and sewed. Then I began to really get a good feel of the room, the light and how I wanted to set it up. Since my room was small, I have wheels on my cutting table and sewing cabinet and I love that I can move both. Anyway, so happy for your new chapter! What an exciting time full of blessings! Can’t wait to see your finished studio some day!

IKEA has some wonderful things to help a quilt studio along and for inexpensive. My cutting table is actually a kitchen cabinet that sets at the right height and 12 very handy drawers for “stuff” and we all know we collect stuff. LOL

I would be sure to incorporate a desk area for your computer. Be sure to have lots of electrical outlets if you don’t already have them. Flexibility is key so that you can move things around as you work in the space and see how you use it. Congrats on having the studio! Love the book and would love to have it.

Hi Nicole,
I love IKEA furniture. My favorite piece is the Varde Counter Storage unit. I use it for my cutting table and storage for my fat quarters. I also have bookshelves from IKEA and am just as pleased. Either way you choose, I’m sure it’s going to be fabulous.

Nobody can have too many quilting books that focus on one cut of fabric, and fat quarters will always be #1 in my heart. The quilts from the book look great, and any specialty rulers make our quilting days easier.
Thanks so much for offering this giveaway.
Sorry I can’t give any recommendations re: a quilting studio. I sew on my dining room table 🙁

It it is going to be wonderful to have such a nice quiltroom! I have a large room, but no cabinets or built-in shelves so can’t offer any suggestions. Your Monique post have been fun to read. I have some of her patterns, but don’t have any of her rulers so it would be fun to win some. Her new book looks like a great one.

Your new quilting space is going to be wonderful no matter how you decide to go with the storage space. I could get into some serious bird house building and other woodworking projects myself in that wonderful shop. I’d probably have to keep it and build another quilt shop next to it, LOL. I have all the saws!!! Inherited many of them from my dad and hubby has purchased a few. Your right, it is the cleanest wood shop I have EVER seen, wow! Great interview yesterday too Nicole and thanks for a chance in your giveaway. Hugs…

Thoughts about a quilting studio ….I wish I had one. Currently my son’s 2 bedroom closets serve as my storage area, my dining room table as my sewing table and the floor is my design wall.

What a wonderful book. And you make it even more enticing. I don’t play cards, but would love to play at making a few of those gorgeous quilts. nope – no quilting studio to be had around here – we have the magick shoppe (it’s where the magick happens – and there’s so much stuff that we could shoppe in there) but it could not, by any definition of the word, be called a studio

I love the new book. One of my friends has suggested that I get the book and make the cribbage pattern. Every night I go to my dad’s house – he’s 98 – and we have dinner and play two hands of cribbage. We are pretty evenly matched…and no, I don’t let him win. This quilt will be a great reminder of the games we played. (However, as it was my friend’s idea, I think SHE should win the book!)
