This was close, but I did finish Eventide by the deadline! I got my scrappy border on over the weekend, and it's done. After a false start, I chose to make my large alternate hour glass blocks (which form a secondary star pattern) very subtle. Playing up the smaller Ohio Star blocks and the red inner border was the way I wanted to go.
Not everyone who has made Eventide on this sew along took that path. Many people chose to emphasize those alternate blocks, and got such a different, but gorgeous effect. The variety of quilts that have resulted from this one pattern (by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.) is staggering. Every one of them has its own unique look. Be sure to check out Thelma's blog Cupcakes 'n' Daisies today to see all the beautiful quilts.
I'd like to take a moment to thank Thelma for all the work she put into organizing this sew along. It was a lot of work for her, linking to and uploading everyone's progress photos each week, and it made for such an entertaining event for all of us who participated, and also for those who chose just to observe. She gave out super prizes, and I offer my congratulations to all the winners! Her weekly posts on all of our progress were terrific. If you read them, did you notice, as I did, how she took great care to praise and admire each and every person's effort for the week? She is a natural organizer, and I hope to participate in another sew along with her some day!
In my opinion, sew alongs are such a wonderful activity. If, like me, you don't have any quilt shops or quilting friends near by, it is a fabulous substitute for getting together in a classroom to make a project. Everyone works on the same pattern, just as you would in a class, and the participants offer each other tips and support and encouragement. Best of all, there is a deadline, which aids many of us (like me!) in keeping on track for a timely finish.
I do hope you enjoyed participating, or watching those of us who did. As always, I appreciated your comments and encouragment throughout the adventure.
Today is Monique's day to post on the Fat Quarter Winners Book Tour. Be sure and pop over and see what her project is going to be!

Looks really good with the naturals as the bigger star pieces. I like the way the smaller stars stands out. Great job.

It is beautiful, Nicole. I am now looking forward to seeing it quilted!! Yes, Thelma did a wonderful job and not only praised everyone’s progress but she also encouraged which I think is very admirable. How timely too, now we have a month with Monique’s!

Lovely quilt, great fabrics, and, as the British say, well done you! I love the many ways this pattern can be used and those quilts Thelma is showing are all wonderful! Applause to one and all!
I’m off to look at Thelma’s display again and to the book tour stop du jour!
What is next for you?
Hugs!

Thelma really did do a great job with this quilt along challenge, and what fun for all of us whether we were able to make the quilt or not.

so, so pretty! It looks right at home there too – such a nice job. I really think I want to make this one, maybe this summer 🙂

Wish I’d joined in! Although, seeing everyone’s variations at the end is rather good too. Your quilt looks really beautiful. So far my favourite of your quilts is Elizabeth, but I really think this one will rival it.

Congrats on another beautiful quilt finish! Thelma did a super job moderating the sew along! (and finding time to work on her own quilt)!! She is generous with her time and praise which is important when ‘leading’ a group of any kind. It’s been a pleasure to follow everyones’ progress with her narration!

Beautiful, you are right. Having others on the same track can really keep one motivated, and having a deadline and accountability definitely keeps me focused on projects. Not to worry, there are many in thw works with no deadlines!

It’s beautiful, Nicole. It still amazes me how fast you can complete a quilt top.

Your Eventide turned out beautiful. I really like the way mine turned out with the Jo Morton fabric, and it’s being sent to the quilter now, one more done for 2011! Thanks for your advice during the process. Like you, I don’t really have any quilting friends close and don’t belong to any groups, so it was nice to talk to someone else about the process.

Yeah!! I love it. Another gorgeous piece to add to your stash. I agree that sew alongs are just the perfect outlet for those that don’t have quilters close by that can get together.
Honestly, sometimes I feel closer to my online blogging companions than those quilters i share with face to face. I think it’s because we tend to share common interests instead of common location. I hope that I’ll be able to join in a sew along in the future. I’ll make sure to keep an eye out. In the mean time… I’ll enjoy all the eye candy that comes from this one!!

This is a stunner, I love how suttle the large stars are, and how it looks on the bed.

It’s just beautiful…and such a great post, too! I didn’t finish, but I still appreciated the sew along…honestly I wouldn’t have even started yet without it. And now I’m far enough along that it will be easy to finish up after market sewing is complete! Just love your quilt!

I like the soft subtle look of your Eventide quilt. I viewed the parade of them and was amazed at the variety of looks depending on color used, style of fabric, and intensity of color.

Absolutely beautiful…I have really enjoyed watching the progress of all the projects in this quilt-along. I am a huge Miss Rosie fan and it is inspiring to see so many talented quilters take on this stunning project. I have learned so much about fabric choice and the different ways of playing up specific parts of a pattern using colour and scale from looking at all of the quilts.
I also have to send out a special thanks for all of the thought provoking and interesting blog posts. I read your blog during my coffee break at work everyday and it is always a highlight!

Congrats on your Eventide finish! I wish I’d had time to join in that quiltalong–perhaps less time spent on the internet would be the solution, but then I’d miss seeing all the fun things everyone makes!
