A Little Party

Hello.  That got your attention, I bet.

That is not my cheesecake.  It will be, as soon as I make mine, but the photo is from The Pioneer Woman Cooks website.  If you have not discovered Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, you need to do so without delay.  And be prepared to lose many hours immersed in her writing, her cooking and her life.

She came out with a cookbook this year, based on recipes she unveiled on her blog.  It's been on the best seller list for months and  months.  you should buy it.  It's called The Pioneer Woman Cooks, and would make a fantastic gift this holiday season.  $16.01 on amazon.com.

We are having some friends over for dinner tonight, and I want to make a festive meal.  For me, a truly festive meal involves dessert.  I have not made a cheese cake in many years, and I think it is time to revisit that lovely entity.

I love The Pioneer Woman Cooks, and so I went right there to her blog for a recipe.  And there it was.  Blackberry Cheesecake is what she calls it.  Looks pretty good, huh?  I'll let you know how it turns out.

Cheddar puffs 
This is my appetizer, Cheddar Puffs, also from The Pioneer Woman Cooks.  This is her photo, but I did make the cheesy egg white mixture and coated my bread cubes in it.  Of course I had a taste, and had to stop myself from eating the whole bowl of batter.  It was close, I tell you.  Anyway, you coat the bread cubes in this lovely eggy cheesy batter, and freeze them on a baking sheet.  Once they are hard, I will toss them into a Zip Lock bag and keep them in the freezer until my company comes.  Then I will bake them and they will puff up and my guests will eat them and everyone will be ecstatic.

The rest of the dinner is a Caesar salad (the same recipe I have been making since 1980) and Giada's Chicken Marsala on Fettucine.  Come on over, there will be plenty.

  5. please, please, please, please will you share your caesar salad recipe – I have been looking for the perfect recipe for years – it seems to be impossible to find a decent caesar salad in Europe and it’s my absolute favourite….and my kids’ favourite too….. Please!

  9. Sounds so good right now because I’m starving! LOL! I wish I was coming for dinner! I love Giada’s Chicken Marsala too! Everything delish! Scott’s favorite salad is the Caesar. Would you be willing to share??

  19. Thank you for reminding me that I wanted to ask for that cookbook for Christmas. The hubby has been asking for a list. Love the Pioneer Woman have been printing off her recipes for awhile now. Your dinner party will be wonderful I’m sure.

  21. Pioneer Woman is my hero. She is evil evil evil because everything she does is soooooo fattening but I love her anyway! LOL!
    Every recipe I make from her ‘cooks’ site turns out wonderful. She has this Pasta with Mushrooms and Bacon recipe that I absolutely love and have made so many times it’s almost a staple at this point. Pastor Ryan’s Chicken Spagetti was excellent as well as her mexican lasagna. I have not tried her desserts because I am horrible cooking desserts but she had a pumpkin cream pie that ALMOST got me to make it.
    Did you catch her on Bobby Flay’s throwndown a few weeks ago? She was just wonderful.
    I hope you have a wonderful dinner party. I love how you entertain and go all out!

  25. I love the pioneer woman’s cookbook. I gave 5 as gifts last Christmas. Have you tried the olive bread-it would go great with your meal and its sooooo yummy!

I just wish I could eat the food but I’ve lost 50 pounds over the last two years and try to watch it as I don’t want to gain it back. I’m making Christmas cookies with my daughters and grandkids tomorrow and will have to send the cookies home with them.

  35. I just printed off 4 of P Dub’s Christmas cookie recipes. Have you tried her carrot cake? Or the blueberries in yogurt cream? Or…….I could go on and on. Every recipe I’ve tried has turned out!

  37. Everything I’ve ever made from her site has been wonderful! Her Olive Cheese Bread is to die for. Her Apple Dumplings….oh my gosh, sheer bliss. Her book is beautiful. Like a fun coffee table book that makes you want to retreat to the kitchen. Let us know how the cheesecake turns out. Been eyeing it myself.

Now I know I will be making Nicole’s ceasar salad for Christmas Eve and the Cheesecake for Christmas Dinner. I have the Pioneer Woman cookbook and never that to go there for ideas.
