Blissed Out

004

This is probably the cutest darn fabric collection to come out this whole year.  I know there have been others on my Top Five List (Luna Notte, Park Avenue, Rural Jardin, etc), but this one is right up there.  Bliss by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.  Cute. Cute. Cute.

I was out shopping at my favorite quilt store this week, and picked up a little stack of fat quarters.  I have an idea of what I want to do with them too.  But, shhhhhhh, it is a surprise for the girls in my family.  It isn't too early to get started on my Christmas presents, don't you know.

This is just one of several makeup bag patterns I have come across lately, that I think would be adorable made up in cheerful feminine fabrics such as the Bliss collection.  What do you think?

Do you have a favorite make up bag pattern?  Would you share a link to it in your comment?

Are there any good tutorials out there on the Internet? Any tips anyone has to share will be welcome.

I will be making a good dozen of these little bags, so I will be sure to share my successes and failures with you all!

  1. I agree – Bliss is absolutely wonderful. I’ve not made any bags, but Terry Atkinson came out with a line of zippers in every shade of the rainbow to use for those bags. They are selling like hotcakes!

  3. Bliss fabrics are just wonderfully cute and cheerful! Fabric lust strikes again!!
I recently bought a purse pattern and think that purse would be charming in these fabrics.
    Hugs!

  5. Terri Degenkolb of Whimsicals has a new book out called Tangled up in Thread that has a really cute cosmetic bag. I’m thinking I’d like to make one just to give it a shot.

In truth, I love Vera Bradley and thier cosmetic bags are quite affordable so I buy thiers. I have two or three. My daughter said she wanted one this Christmas from the new fabric pattern, so I guess I should treat myself to another one while I’m at it! LOL!

  7. I don’t have a pattern to share, I usually make mine without a pattern.
I love the Bliss fabric too and my other favorite is Fandango!

  11. I’ve made several of these make-up bags. I like them because they open up so well:
I’ll try putting the link – if it doesn’t work I’ll put it in longhand in a following comment.

  15. Ayu Mills has neat tutorials at her blog, Pink Penguin. I’m at work, and can’t get the link, but google her and you’ll find some neat things. I’m a “blissed-out” Bliss fan, too 🙂

  17. I just made the strip zip bag – larger version – and it turned out great. Not big enough for much make-up but I love it nonetheless.

  19. I’m worried about the little zippers, did you buy them yet? I’ve never sewn a zipper……or seen zippers that small in a store….

  21. I’ve started several “Little Wallet”
    by Valorie Wells. http://www.stitchingpost.com
No zipper – has a snap.
Christmas gifts for the office girls.
Just takes scraps- coordinating leftovers or all the same fabric. Also using buttons
from my button jar for the perfect accessory for the front.
    CUTE!!
