Yesterday I was talking about making quilts with fabric colors that are "outside my comfort zone". I guess these coral, lime, aqua and navy shades would fit that description. The fabrics are from a collection called Neptune by Tula Pink when she was designing for Moda (she now designs for Free Spirit). The pattern is called Sweet Escape by Miss Rosie's Quilt Company. I would absolutely make this pattern again.
Actually, I like the colors. I find them fresh and cheerful and fun. However, they do not coordinate in any way with the colors I decorate with—red, brown, green, gold. That being said, I have to admit, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing with these colors.
Are you in a color rut? If you would like the experience of making a quick quilt using colors that are different from what you normally choose, I have a suggestion. Try making one of the Schnibbles small quilts from Carrie Nelson's Schnibbles patterns (Miss Rosie's Quilt Company). Most of them use two or three charm packs and are a fun way to experiment with new fabric collections for a reasonable price. If you like making bigger quilts, get hold of Carrie's book Schnibbles Times Two for some great quilts that can be made with two layer cakes.
Could this possibly be any different than the Beach Cottage quilt top I shared yesterday? So happy to have it finished at last, and all ready to give as a gift to someone someday.

Oh I like it Nicole – but it certainly is different from your usual colour palette. I think it always does you good to go a little outside the comfort zone when it comes to colours – but I’m not very good at doing it myself! I have recently bought some wild and wacky fabric – which I will get down to working with soon – but I confess I find it a little intimidating!!!

I love those darks taking my eyes around the quilt more than ever! This is a beautiful color combination and despite being out of your regular zone, doesn’t seem totally unlike you somehow! Congrats on another finish. I finally have a Schnibbles pattern and Miss Rosie pattern and plan to make both soon.

I love the colors in this quilt and so glad that you shared it with all of us! Amazing what happens when you get out of your comfort zone!

That is a fabulous top. I know what you mean about the decorating colors, but someone will love this quilt. Jacobs Ladder is such a great block to design with and I love the border and corner blocks, Job well done!

Mmmmm, I’ve loved that line since I first saw it. Great choice of pattern for this line.

I love how this turned out Nicole! Gorgeous choice of fabrics. That reminds me, I need to get the border on my Sweet Escape (with Eva) and get it off to the quilter!

With all this about Modern quilting and stuff I have found myself thinking about colors too. I really like the simple styles and the clean lines but they don’t go with anything in my house! I also have an issue with solids. After so many years of teachers hammering the concept of texture and movement in fabrics, it’s tough to shed my trappings. I keep thinking the Amish have been using solids since forever, why can’t I get over it? LOL! Your Sweet Escape with Neptune turned out wonderful!

Thanks to your endorsement of the quilt pattern, I just ordered it. Thanks for the tip.

I really like this quilt. The colors are not what I would normally prefer (your French General quilts and the yellow/blue/green one are favorites) but the pattern really makes them work well. Great job and thanks for a post that jostles my comfort zone a bit. Not too comfy, but necessary sometimes.

I love the boldness of color in this quilt. I’m a big fan of Tula Pink, and of Miss Rosie. Great job on the quilt, and on stepping outside of your comfort zone!
