Thank you

You guys are simply awesome.  Thank you so much for your suggestions and offers of fabric!  I cannot believe what an amazing resource you all are.  If anyone is considering starting up a blog, look no further for a wonderful source of support, suggestions and encouragement.  I had so many of you actually offer to share your fabric with me!  Love you guys!

I have totally re-thought my plan for this Stargazer quilt, thanks to you.  The center medallion is going to be re-made, using predominently browns, caramels, reds, and sage greens.  The blues were lovely, but the quilt just wasn't "singing" with them.

I got so many fabulous ideas from you all as to how I might make some adjustments, and have embraced many of them in my new plan.  Thank you so much for the time you spent looking on the internet for additional fabric for me, and for giving me your valuable input as to how I might best go forward with salvaging this project.

So here is the new Stargazer plan:

1) Re-do the center medallion.  Thanks to several of your leads, I have ordered additional fabric from a couple of on-line sources to emphasize the brown, caramel, reds, and sage green.  The fabric should arrive early next week, so in the mean time, I will complete all my star blocks.

2) Eliminate the blue.  It just wasn't working with the reds I really wanted to include in the quilt.

3)  Incorporate lots of fabrics that are outside the Allspice Tapestry collection.  I have tons of other Fig Tree groups that had pieces that worked in this quilt, plus loads of background fabrics from dozens of other fabric designers and companies.  This quilt is going to be super scrappy.

Here are my four color groups:

001

Chocolate browns.  These are my focus fabrics–they have the browns, caramels, greens and reds.  This is the basis from which we can go forward.  One of my blogging friends had a good amount of the large brown floral, which she offered to share with me.  This will be my predominent fabric for the center medallion and the border.

002

Reds.

004

Caramels.

003

Sage greens.

I cannot thank you enough for all your suggestions, comments, and encouragement.  I really do read through and consider all your thoughts.  I appreciate all of you, more than I can say.

  1. This is the most fun thing about being in Blogland. You feel like you’ve just gone over to your girlfriend’s house to help her with her quilting problem. And together you brainstorm until you have a new idea and end up with a fabulous quilt. I can’t wait to see this one!!!

  3. Don’t you just love it when things work out like this? This is why I never think of quilting as an individual sport – it often seems to work best as a team effort.

  5. Bloggers really are the best. I’m glad you found a new idea for the quilt. I think it will be much prettier with the changes you are planning.

  7. Ooh, it is going to be luscious! But then, you always have such an eye for your color plan, Nicole. Glad you shifted gears and got it just the way you want it. Blogging friends are great!

  9. Can’t wait to see this one, too! What is it about blue – you’d think it’d want to play. In my limited experience, I usually don’t like what I’m working on as I’m piecing (lack of confidence)but then when it’s quilted – I’m amazed how good it looks.

  19. Love the stars, your colors choices, and the decision to make this quilt deliciously super scrappy! I cannot wait to see it – and with your lightening speed, that will probably be midweek. It would be sooner but you’ll want to wait for the offered fabrics and the ordered fabrics to arrive! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge!!
Your lovely blues can sing in a different quilt!
    Hugs!

  21. If you need anymore of that large floral print in the caramel, I could get you some. I found a whole bolt of it at one of my local quilt shops, on the sale table, for $4.99 a yard.
